Inspiration strikes at the oddest times. Recently, I was watching Blumhouse's "Night Swim" and started thinking about all the strangest killer objects in the history of horror movies. "Where would a swimming pool rank on such a list," I pondered. "Would it rank lower or higher than a hungry bed?" These are the hard-hitting questions that race through my head, only eased by tasks like ranking all the craziest, head-scratchiest, most out-of-bounds killer objects in horror movie history.
We're not talking about flesh and blood killers or animal attackers. Even something like "Santa Jaws" is omitted from contention because while you could blame either the magical pen or sketchbook canvas that brings the Great White Santa to life, it's still a jingle-jangling shark gobbling up victims. This list is dedicated to deadly things that should not kill. Monstrous versions of household items that spring to life and slay the innocent with a most baffling reaction.

Full Moon founder Charles Band is one of my heroes, and another one of my heroes is drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs. Those two legends collided last weekend, as Band’s marriage to actress Robin Sydney was officiated by Joe Bob!
The wedding took place at the historic Casa Del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, California, on December 9th and was planned by Krystal Moreno from Krystal Klear Special Events & Hospitality Consulting. According to an article on People, the idea was to blend together some of the things Band and Sydney love the most, resulting in “a Magic Castle, old Hollywood concert feel with a touch of a circus.” Two Cirque du Soleil artists, a contortionist and a belly dancer, performed at the venue, as did magicians from the Magic Castle, a private club in Los Angeles owned by the Academy of Magical Arts. Starting off our countdown, we slice into The Gingerdead Man. As campy as it is creepy, this film serves up a feast of fears with a maniacal cookie out for revenge. It’s ludicrous, it’s laughable, and it’s the perfect...

One wouldn’t think that a schlocky slasher series about killer puppets would produce more than a dozen films across three decades, let alone sequels that are still being discussed today, yet here we are getting deep in the weeds over the straight-to-video sequel bliss that is Puppet Master 4. Puppet Master is easily the most successful property to come out of Charles Band’s Full Moon Features, best known for movies like Castle Freak and Subspecies, as well as more low-hanging fruit like The Gingerdead Man and The Evil Bong series. Puppet Master falls comfortably between these two extremes. After a satisfying initial trilogy that chronicles the grandiose revenge scheme of a persecuted toymaker, Puppet Master–like many long-running horror series–is forced to ask, “What’s next?”
In Puppet Master’s case, the franchise strangely pivots towards the rehabilitation of Blade, Leech Woman, Six-Shooter, and the rest of these...

Plot: When a computer hacker unlocks an advanced Artificial Intelligence program called AImee, this artificial femme fatale gradually takes over his life and sets out to destroy anyone who opposes her.
Review: Full Moon founder Charles Band has always had his eye out for the “next big thing” in entertainment and technology. He was one of the pioneers of the home video age, having started his own video distribution company in 1978. He cashed in on the brief 3-D resurgence in the early ‘80s. Full Moon’s 1993 film Arcade drew attention for the amount of CGI it featured. He started his own streaming service (FullMoonFeatures.com). So it’s no surprise that he happens to be the director of the movie that stars “the very first AI-created femme fatale in film history”. That would be AImee, the title character in the new Full Moon project AImee: The Visitor.

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" were meant to be counter-programming for each other. They both opened in theaters on July 21, 2023, and one can practically hear the studio executives at both Universal and Warner Bros. positing that a younger audience would be dropped off to see the PG-13-rated "Barbie" while adults would sidle into the theater next door to watch "Oppenheimer." What no one seemed to predict was that there was a great deal of overlap between the two films' intended audiences, and a grassroots campaign began to see the two pictures as the ultimate double feature. The phenomenon nicknamed Barbenheimer began. Any number of unauthorized Barbenheimer T-shirts can be purchased online, and many managed to see both films on the same weekend. Rather than siphoning money from one another, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" buoyed each other, each one adding to the other's success. Both films are...

After Puppet Master, Subspecies is undoubtedly Full Moon’s most successful franchise. The two are similar in that they both have an intricate central mythology that is expanded upon over time, and while both have their share of quirky humor, the films are much more serious in tone than other notable Full Moon franchises like Gingerdead Man or Evil Bong. The two series, however, also have their share of stark differences. For one thing, the Puppet Master series has spawned 15 films to date: 13 official entries from the home studio, plus a crossover by the Sci-Fi Channel and a remake. They also play it fast and loose in terms of continuity. Many different screenwriters have come and gone, adding to and contradicting the established mythology—sometimes in equal doses.
Subspecies, meanwhile, is only just now seeing the release of its fifth entry after a twenty-five year gap since the last sequel,...

The idea of retelling placid and gentle children's fairy tales in a bloody, horror milieu is hardly new. Think of a fairy tale or beloved children's classic, and odds are good that someone has already transformed it into a horror movie. Off the top of my head: Neil Jordan made a horror movie out of Little Red Riding Hood with "The Company of Wolves" in 1984. Later, in 1996, filmmaker Matthew Bright brought the same story into a scuzzy modern setting with "Freeway." 1997 saw the release of "Snow White: A Tale of Terror" with Sigourney Weaver as the evil queen.
"The Little Mermaid" was transformed into an awesome 2015 horror musical called "The Lure." Pinocchio starred in "Pinocchio's Revenge." The Gingerbread Man was transformed into "The Gingerdead Man". A quick stroll through the spider-webbed hallways of Tubi might reveal titles like "The Curse of Sleeping Beauty," 1995's "Rumplestiltskin," and multiple films called "The Tooth Fairy.

Seventeen years after the original, and four years since the last film in the franchise, Evil Bong 777, Evil Bong 888: Infinity High brings the saga of EeBee to a close. At least that’s what director and Full Moon head honcho, Charles Band is saying now, but as we all knew, he’s never met a sequel he didn’t like.
Rabbit has finally decided to turn over a new leaf and become a legit businessman, a restaurateur to be precise. While his first day in business doesn’t bring him much business it does bring him a Maître d’, or Maître Double d’ as he puts it, Thomasina “Tom” Atkins.

Charles Band set a precedent when he founded Full Moon Features over thirty years ago, creating a narrative blueprint that many modern horror filmmakers adhere to, and was an enduring and provocative figure during the VHS Boom of the ’80s and early ’90s. When Epic Entertainment bought the bankrupt Empire Pictures (Empire produced Ghoulies and Re-Animator), Charles, with an eye for the cultural merits of truly great cinema, founded Full Moon Features. Already familiar with studio filmmaking and the machinery surrounding it, including distribution, Band now had complete control.
The polymath (Band was involved to a greater or lesser extent in several other entertainment subsidiaries) went on to spawn cult movie franchises such as Puppet Master, The Gingerdead Man, and Subspecies. Most readers will remember Blockbuster Video putting out most of Band’s catalogues in their “straight-to-b-movie” bargain bins. It’s been a stellar year of cinema and pop culture-themed books, and the texts (and Blu-rays) in this round-up all make fine gifts. Some horror movie monsters instantly achieve iconic status and proceed to slash, mutilate and maim their way through an ever-increasing stack of sequels until the inevitable jump-the-shark moment when they’re shelved (until it’s time for a gritty, dark reboot).

I completely missed out on the cult classic Puppet Master film franchise growing up, but knowing that it comes from the mind of B-movie maven Charles Band — the same guy behind movies like Trancers, Dollman vs. Demonic Toys, and The Gingerdead Man — tells me pretty much everything I need to know. The franchise contains eleven movies so far and has been dormant since 2012, but a press release just informed me that Bone Tomahawk writer/director S. Craig Zahler has come on board to write a new movie called Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich that's intended to kick off a new Puppet Master universe.
Charles Band is executive producing, while Bone Tomahawk's Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller will produce alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) and Mark Vahradian. No director has been hired yet.

Universal Studios has begun building their own monster-verse, starting with Dracula Untold. Fox is planning to merge their X-Men/Fantastic Four franchises. Paramount is looking at sequels and spin-offs to the Transformers series, making it into a multi-franchise story. We recently reported that the Mistress of the Dark is returning soon to host horror flicks in Hulu’s 13 Nights of Elvira. Now you can get a taste of the humor to come, as Hulu and Brainstorm Media have provided us with a clip in which Elvira offers witty remarks on 1985’s Trancers and Oscar winner Helen Hunt before imagining what she would say upon winning an Academy Award.
Cassandra Peterson stars as the legendary horror hostess on Hulu’s 13 Nights of Elvira, streaming exclusively on the site beginning October 19th and running through Halloween. Each night Elvira will introduce a fright film and offer occasional comedic commentary—a setup similar to her Movie Macabre performances. Here’s the official schedule:
Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death (1989) Sunday, Oct. 19 Puppet Master (1989) Monday, Oct. 20 Demonic Toys (1992) Tuesday, Oct. 21 Hobgoblins (1988) Wednesday, Oct. 22 The Gingerdead Man (2005) Thursday, Oct. 23 Dollman (1991) Friday, Oct.

For as long as there are horror and sci-fi movies of, shall we say, questionable quality there will be...Elvira. The Mistress of the Dark returns to the small screen in a new Hulu series called 13 Nights of Elvira and this time, she'll be poking fun at a new crop of films with her usual flavor of humor.
The titles include Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman, Trancers, Oblivion, Shrunken Heads, Hideous, Evil Bong, Seedpeople and Night of the Living Dead.

Hulu’s heart is on fire for Elvira. The Mistress of Dark is headed to the subscription-based and (perhaps soon-to-be slightly less) ad-supported “premium streaming TV destination” for a brand new series this Halloween season. 13 Nights of Elvira will feature Cassandra Peterson once again suited up in what very well may be the original stereotypical sexy girl’s Halloween costume to reprise her dual roles of Alistair Cooke and Roger Ebert for the B grade horror movie set. The program is a streaming iteration of Peterson’s cult classic Elvira’s Movie Macabre (which is also currently available on Hulu), and will feature pithy intros, and poignant, punny commentary from the self-proclaimed Personification of Instant Gratification. Elvira will playfully praise and skewer the following terrifically terrible flicks on the daily starting October 19: Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman,...

What in the f*ck did I just watch? If you're a fan of horror comedies like The Gingerdead Man, or Z movies like Big Ass Spider!, you have to watch this trailer for Zombeavers. The film is about a group of college kids who are terrorized by a group of zombie beavers while hanging out at a riverside cabin, and the trailer features plenty of blood, and of course, jokes involving the word beaver. Yes, it's that type of movie. The film comes from first time director Jordan Rubin...

One of the key components to a successful horror film is a memorable adversary for the protagonists. Often, the villain is human, or once was. Sometimes the foe is a possessed home, or a revenant that just won’t die. In rare cases, the monster is something a little more… unusual. As evidenced in the list below, we sometimes discover the enemy is more bizarre than we could ever dream: evil objects, demonic playthings, even malevolent pastries... monsters come in many forms. With that said, it’s time to take a walk down memory lane and look at ten more of the most unconventional monsters in horror cinema history. [Check out our first ten here.] Note: To avoid a list that features nothing but SyFy Channel originals, we are only considering films that premiered in a medium other than cable television. Dolly Dearest The Child’s Play franchise is hands-down better than Dolly Dearest, and we...

Fred Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Michael Myers, and Pinhead have all led to sleepless nights for anyone introduced to their exploits at a young age. Almost everyone I know has had a dream that Freddy was after them or that they were being chased through the woods by Jason Voorhees. Not all horror killers have induced nightmares, though. Some of them have induced plenty of groans, snickers, and ridicule, however. We recognize that not everyone can be terrifying. Some killers are mere caricatures of what we expect to see from a silver screen psychopath. Those that don’t live up to the basic standards of what terrifies viewers are usually good for a laugh, though. And, some of the baddies we are spotlighting certainly provided us with a good chuckle or three. With that said, we are about to pay tribute to seven of the least terrifying horror film psychopaths of recent years.

As a child of the 80′s, the video store was my second home. There were a few shops here in St. Louis that carried some big box titles and among them, I always remembered Wizard Video. One of Wizard Video’s most notorious releases was I Spit on Your Grave. In the past few years, VHS tapes have become a collector’s item of sorts. Some people I know go crazy and try and collect all the VHS tapes they can find. I am a bit more selective with what I pick up (I tend to go for big boxes and releases that have some nostalgia for me). There is no doubt that there is still a market in VHS. Is it the best format to watch a film, no. However, there is a certain allure to watch a film on VHS. It feels more organic and feels dynamic and...

So, I’ll be sidestepping any sort of innuendo or penis jokes in this post, but let it be known how hard it was for me. Charles Band, a veteran of horror and sci-fi (The Gingerdead Man, Evil Bong, Trancers and a ton more) is working with Full Moon, the production company he founded, for Ooga Booga: a bloody action film featuring an action figure gone bezerk. It sounds like Small Soldiers on crack.
Karen Black (House Of 1000 Corpses) and Maddox (author of The Alphabet Of Manliness) have already signed on to star.
Synopsis:
Revenge is served on a spear when dirty cops brutally murder Devin, an innocent African-American med student. Devin’s soul is magically transferred into the body of an action figure named Ooga Booga. Armed only with his tribal weapon and the help of his old girlfriend, Donna, Ooga Booga takes to the streets and trailer...

I’ve recently been working my way through a mountain of horror movies and came across Dead of Night (1945), a British anthology horror film containing a chapter about a possessed ventriloquist dummy. I enjoyed this short piece so much that it got me thinking of other horror movies that contained killer toys, and a couple of hours later I was writing this article about movies with homicidal dolls.
I’m not really sure how I feel about the horror content of maniacal puppets and their ilk. On the one hand, it would seem pretty easy to defend yourself against Oscar the Grouch even if he is armed with the requisite miniature knife, but on the other hand you might be in such a state of shock that G.I. Joe and his Kung-Fu Grip would easily slit your throat. I’ve even spotted a few ugly dolls in antique stores...

We admit it. We're not always right. In fact, like everyone else sometimes we miss the mark by a mile. Still, one man's trash is another's treasure, and in that spirit we'd like to take this time to poke a little fun at ourselves and look back at some of the reviews we get no end of shit for.

Or did we just plain like a stinker? You decide as we take a look back at some of our worst moments.

Before he began animating puppets via an ancient Egyptian curse or introducing fans to the hilarious horrors of The Gingerdead Man, Full Moon Pictures head honcho Charles Band saw the future of home video years before most of us had even heard of a Vcr.
About fifteen years before the world would experience the Full Moon brand of horror and before establishing himself as one of the modern B-movie pioneers with the countless films he's released under the production banner, Band was just a guy who knew he was destined to get involved with films; but when he was ready to get his start in the industry in the early 70's, he just wasn't sure exactly where.
Since most fans around here know the outgoing Band as the mouthpiece of Full Moon Pictures and the fan-friendly madman behind the Full Moon Horror Road Show that made over 100 stops during its several year run,...

We've been spoiled as of late with our monsters in cinema. The monsters look more realistic, the scares outweigh the laughs, and the acting... well, the acting still sucks by and large. I miss the heyday of cheesy monster movies (as I wasn't alive during it) and am awaiting the day when a big shot director decides to go old school and make another one if not as a homage to the forgotten art of terrible monsters.
This post is a homage to my 5 favorite bizarrely hilarious horrible monsters. Accompanied with clips and loads of nostalgia, it should serve as a treat to all you B-movie horror fans. Enjoy.
5. Trolls From Troll 2
I can't have a list like this and not tip a hat to one of the worst films of all time. If you haven't seen it, you need to. People telling you it's "that bad" does not do enough justice.

They may not be household names like their A-list colleagues, but the actors on this list have appeared in some of our all-time favourite geek movies...
Some actors dabble in sci-fi; others dip their toe into fantasy; some may even make an appearance in the odd horror film - all before returning to the safety of the genres in which they feel more comfortable - perhaps a nice, award-chasing period drama, or a well-paid romantic comedy.
A-listers may see the geeky films that we on this site enjoy and celebrate as fun little side-projects, but there are actors out there who commit full-time to these types of movies. It is high time, therefore, that we credited these individuals with the recognition they deserve.
Besides the stipulation that, in order to be included, an actor had to still be alive and working today, there were no strict criteria that had to...

We reported yesterday that Piranha 3Dd began shooting in North Carolina. Now, we get word that another being with huge teeth has joined the cast. The Gingerdead Man himself, fresh from his Celebrity Apprentice gig, has joined the cast of Gulager’s sequel. Amazing. Truly Amazing. Read beyond the break for the full details.
From the Press Release:
Gary Busey is on board for Piranha 3Dd now in production in Wilmington, Nc.
As more potential fish bait, Busey joins the other cast members announced earlier this week including Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies), Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spiderman), David Koechner (Anchorman), Meagan Tandy (Unstoppable) and others.
Piranha 3Dd shows its teeth in theatres nationwide on November 23, 2011. The feast is on this Thanksgiving.

It’s official. Gary Busey, recently seen as the cock-eyed Pepperoni Profit on Celebrity Apprentice, has joined the cast of Piranha 3Dd.
It’s safe to assume Busey won’t be representing the “Dd” portion of the film (we hope?) but the details of his character are yet unknown. The pic, helmed by The Weinstein Company, is set to bow November 23.
Though Tara Reid has denied her reported involvement with the film, the veteran actor still joins an edible young cast announced earlier this week. Attached to the project are Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) and Matt Bush (Adventureland), as...

The GIngerdead Man A movie that is a guilty pleasure is something your friends and family would hate, but you really enjoy. I thought this was going to be an easy pick for me. I now realize that there are quite a few movies that I love that are guilty pleasures. Some horror fans absolutely love cheesy B ranked movies. Film studios like Troma Entertainment and Full Moon entertainment have been able to stay afloat off of this fan base since the mid 80's. I contemplated doing my guilty pleasure on The Toxic Avenger, Poultrygeist, Killjoy 3 or the Puppet Master series. It came down to one catch phrase for me to make up my mind “Eat me you punk bi*ch”.
My favorite guilty pleasure film is “The Gingerdead Man” by Full Moon Entertainment. First of all, any film maker that can write and direct a film involving a serial...

There's no doubt that writer/director/producer Charles Band is one of the true pioneers of independent horror. He's written and directed over 30 independent genre films and produced some 244 titles as well, not to mention founding both Empire Pictures in the 80s as well as Full Moon Entertainment.
Full Moon has been producing and distributing horror films since 1989, including such classics as Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Castle Freak, Killjoy and The Gingerdead Man.
Now Band is back with his latest feature, Evil Bong 3D: Wrath of Bong, which has the writer/director gearing up for a road tour in support of the film’s release that kicks off with a premiere at the historic Portage Theater in Chicago on April 9th.
