Horror fans will recognize Adam Marcus as the director of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday and the co-writer of Texas Chainsaw 3D, two divisive but oft-discussed entries in their respective franchises. He recently returned to the genre to helm Secret Santa, a holiday horror-comedy streaming exclusively on Screambox.
The final installment in our three-part interview with the raconteur focuses on Secret Santa and the trials and tribulations of independent filmmaking. He also teases several projects that are in the works, including a monstrous collaboration with special effects legend Robert Kurtzman.
Secret Santa was born out of Marcus and his writing partner/wife Debra Sullivan’s frustration with the lack of creative control they had on their two previously produced screenplays, 2013’s Texas Chainsaw and 2015’s Momentum. “Artistically, it just started to feel really hollow. I was like, ‘Did I get into this to make money, or did I...

Watching Santastein as part of this year's Popcorn Frights Film Festival felt like unwrapping a Christmas gift extra early this past summer, so I'm especially excited that Manuel Camilion and Benjamin Edelman's new holiday horror film is coming to Screambox on December 19th as part of their streaming lineup this month!
Below, you can check out the previous Santastein trailer and details on Screambox's December streaming lineup (which also includes Rare Exports), and in case you missed it, feel free to read my Popcorn Frights review of Santastein, which brings Santa Claus back to life with a blood-splattered vengeance!
Santastein synopsis: Max was only six years old when he accidentally burned Santa to a crisp on Christmas Eve. 12 years later, Max attempts to raise Santa from the dead in order to fix his past mistakes and restore the Christmas spirit. But he soon realizes that the creature he has...

In case you missed it earlier this week… Tis the season to be scary, as Bloody Disgusting announces the acquisition of three new holiday horror titles for the Screambox streaming service – Secret Santa, Night of the Missing, and Santastein will make the long winter’s nights anything but silent!
Since Black Christmas, holiday films have been a refreshing sub-genre within horror. These films offer a much-needed contrast to the “all is well” narrative that is so often depicted in seasonal films. The angst and anxiety of holiday horror offer a cathartic release because for many the holidays are not perfect, and we don’t see ourselves in the yuletide rom-coms.
We’re thrilled to be releasing these films because they offer something for everyone; whether you want to laugh, scream or just have fun, you can find it on Screambox!

We have a trio of holiday horror films coming to Screambox but the very first to be unwrapped is Secret Santa, which hails from Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday director Adam Marcus!
You won’t have to wait long to dig into this wild and crazy horror film as it arrives on VOD and Screambox on November 7.
In the film…
“As friends and family gather near, to celebrate another holiday season, they have no idea a murderer lies in their midst. With drinks flowing, a distant and dysfunctional, affluent family is unaware that their yuletide libations are laced with a truth serum that will bring holy hell down on their holiday gathering. When secrets begin to spill, the tension starts to rise until it escalates into a murderous rampage that Krampus would be proud of. But through the bobbles and bloodshed, one among them is desperate to stop...

It’s a new month, which means a plethora of new titles arriving on streaming. While Halloween may be in the rearview, there’s still plenty of horror to keep us busy this holiday season.
So here’s a quick, handy guide for horror streaming in November 2023. This month’s noteworthy streaming titles spotlight new releases, rare repertory offerings, and more.
Here are ten noteworthy horror titles available for streaming in November 2023 on some of the most popular streaming services, along with when/where you can watch them.
Black Friday – Crackle, Redbox (November 1)
A raucous creature feature that captures the horrors of shopping on Black Friday. Set within a toy store, it follows a group of disgruntled employees as they begrudgingly arrive for work on the busiest day of the year for retail. Meanwhile, an alien parasite crashes into Earth via meteor. The employees’ rough night gets exponentially worse when their shoppers become bloodthirsty monsters.

Titles all directed by ‘The Duff’ director Lane Shefter Bishop.
UK-based sales firm 101 Films International has acquired worldwide sales rights to six Christmas films, all directed by US filmmaker Lane Shefter Bishop.
101 is launching sales on all six titles at this week’s European Film Market.
The titles include An Eclectic Christmas, about the instructions left behind in the will of a vintage store owner; Christmas Beneath The Stars, in which a blogger helps an ex-military man restore a Christmas exhibition; and Christmas On The Rocks, when a lady pretends to be her event planner sister in order to save an important client.

Secret Santa is a new horror comedy from writer and director Mike McMurran, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Sunday 28th January. I got chance to ask Mike a few questions about why he chose to write a Christmas horror, his favorite scene and getting the film made on a small budget.
What can we expect from Secret Santa?
You can expect to have a fun ride! We really wanted to capture the nostalgia of the late 70’s and early 80’s slasher films but also put our own personal touch on the film. You can expect some great kills thanks to our SFX artist Carlos Henriques from The Butcher Shop. The movie is funny as well. There’s a big comedic aspect to the film that I think viewers will enjoy and find refreshing. When writing the script, I really tried to make the...

Below, TV Fanatics Jack Ori, Paul Dailly, and Justin Carreiro debate the severity of Jughead kidnapping Penny Peabody, Betty kissing Archie, and Veronica learning the truth about her parents' business.
1. Mr. Svenson was revealed as The Black Hood and killed while escaping. Share your thoughts of the killer's identity and conclusion.
Jack: I had predicted a couple weeks ago that Mr. Svenson was The Black Hood. I would have preferred he have been around earlier than the three weeks prior to the conclusion, which made him a way too obvious suspect.
I tend to agree with Jughead's narration that this isn't over, and I have a feeling Jughead was going to say something that he thought better of when he said...

Ready for all those holiday parties? Of course you are. And unless you have committed to Secret Santa with your friends or you don't have any friends to begin with, chances are you have been invited to a holiday party that will involve a White Elephant gift swap. For the uninitiated (or again, friendless), White Elephant gift swapping means you buy one gift to bring to a party, and the game starts when one person in your group picks a present from the pile. The next person can either steal that gift or pick a new one. And it goes round and round like that until everyone hates each other and no one got the gift they wanted. Basically. Before you head out to those parties, here are some simple rules to not suck at...

Jennie Garth and holiday spirit are hardly strangers to each other.
Besides Christmas-themed episodes of "Beverly Hills, 90210" in which the actress appeared as Kelly Taylor, she also has made the TV movies "Secret Santa" and "A Christmas Wedding Tail" ... yes, "Tail," as in "dog's tail." Now, Garth is back in seasonal mode by starring in "Holidaze," ABC Family's newest contribution to its "25 Days of Christmas" programming as it premieres Sunday, Dec. 8.
The film merges many traditional elements, with Garth playing a workaholic who returns to her hometown on a mission that's business, at least to begin with. A reunion with a former beau (Cameron Mathison, a fellow Season 5 "Dancing With the Stars" alum) and an accident that leaves her thinking she's living a totally different life -- as the wife of the ex-boyfriend -- change the trip, and the holiday, drastically for her.

Sure, you could bake the '2 Broke Girls" fan in your life cupcakes for the holidays, and be done with it.
But Zap2it has more suggestions for fans of the waitresses in Williamsburg. Plus you can make the excuse that you're already shopping, so you might as well finally buy yourself Caroline's necklace.
Gifts under $50:
Kat necklace ($9.50) -- A photo of Max, almost smiling, in a metal casing. If you're a Secret Santa and have a $10 limit at the office, this works.
Calendar ($11.59) -- Sure, everyone keeps an online calendar, but there's something comforting about being jotting down appointments on a wall calendar.
Poster ($12.95) -- The poster of the two wearing costume designer Trayce Fields' creation is fun, and of all of the costumes she's made for the show, Fields was most proud of these.
Cupcake Mug (14.95) -- If you do bake the cupcakes, your fan needs something to wash them down.

Social network and office employee distraction vortex Reddit is partnering with cable network truTV to attempt the largest Secret Santa gift exchange ever. Redditgifts will cross-promote with truTV’s series Guinness World Records Unleashed in an effort to break the world record for the largest holiday gift exchange.
Chances are rather high the online Secret Santa gift exchange, founded in 2009, will bust the record — because redditgifts actually broke the world record in 2011 with 30,240 participants and then broke it again in 2012, with 44,805 participants across 130 countries. This year, Reddit is hoping to hit 65,000 participants.

Batman and Superman have to be the two of the most iconic comic book characters alongside with some of the Marvel characters. Batman and Superman for many years have been the building blocks for DC Comics ever since the two comics known as Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27 hit the shelves in the late 1930s, with the Caped Crusader debuting after the Man of Steel. The two have been the best team-up (sorry, Robin) in comics since peanut butter and jelly. These two characters also show trust towards one another, even exchanging their weaknesses with one another. But this article isn’t about sharing or any other Secret Santa exchange, it’s about who would win a brawl between the greatest icons of the DC Comics mythology: Batman vs. Superman. This argument has been argued for over decades of who would win a fight between the two. Throughout...

Yesterday morning I received an e-mail from my pal/ComicMix partner/Secret Santa Glenn Hauman with a link to a three-month old piece in The Atlantic and the comment “You simply must write this up!”
Must? Glenn never says must. He knows I’ll twist and turn any demand challenge into the pretzel from hell – you know, it’s a living – so he usually makes polite suggestions.
I was thinking about writing in detail about exactly how to fix the comic book industry and how easy it is and how it won’t take any additional money to pull it off, but evidently Glenn thinks this is more important. So be it.
I believe the brilliant political satire The President’s Analyst (James Coburn, Godfrey Cambridge, and Wasteland contributor Severn Darden) to be even more relevant today than it was when it was released in 1967. I don’t want to...

Saying last night’s episode of SNL fell short of expectations would be the understatement of the year. Host Martin Short didn’t disappoint; his brand of physical comedy and impeccable comedic timing were refreshing, but he didn’t have adequate material to work with. As expected, the episode was star-studded — complete with cameos from other SNL alums and show favorites — but the celebrity guests acted as background props for the most part instead of contributing to skits. However, every time Paul McCartney took the stage, his tender voice wiped my memory clean of any mediocre jokes that preceded his stellar performance.

If you were hoping (like me) that "Glee" would pay homage to the brilliance of "Love, Actually" in its holiday-themed "Glee, Actually," you may have been sorely disappointed. But there were, like in that great Christmas movie, several storylines.
And, like "Love, Actually," not all holiday tales are created equal. Thus, it is time to rank the holiday tales shared in "Glee, Actually."
5. Secret Santa, aka Sue's small heart grew three sizes that day
Of course, "Glee" is pretty much contractually required to end an episode with sweetness and singing. This is, however, unfortunate. The "Secret Santa" story at the end was easily the weakest of the five.
Why? Mostly this is because we've seen it all before.

And, like "Love, Actually," not all holiday tales are created equal. Thus, it is time to rank the holiday tales shared in "Glee, Actually."
5. Secret Santa, aka Sue's small heart grew three sizes that day

“Does this involve the glee club singing a Christmas song in the auditorium with snow falling on an elaborate winter scene?” hissed Sue Sylvester, sworn enemy of New Directions, in Glee‘s final episode of 2012.
The answer, of course, was a resounding yes — both in terms of the final scene in Sue’s story arc, and the overarching theme of the episode entitled “Glee, Actually.”
If you were too busy attending the first (and last) meeting of McKinley High’s Mayan Apocalypse Club, here’s what you missed on Glee.

Ho, ho, ho, scary Christmas! Slay bells are ringing in Season 7's penultimate episode of "Dexter."
It's definitely anything but merry for our favorite serial killer (Michael C. Hall), whose trouble with women reaches an all-time high in Season 7's penultimate episode, "Do You See What I See."
At first, all is mistletoe and candy canes between Dexter and Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski). Dexter even envisions "growing old" with the serial poisoner. That is, until she poisons his sister.
Christmas Spirit: Following up on the late Clint McKay's tip, Deb questions Hannah's old halfway house roommate, Arlene, about their counselor's death. When Hannah, who killed him with rat poison, finds out, she surprises Deb at her home. She pleads for the two to find "common ground" for Dex's sake, but Deb says she's only interested in protecting Dex ... from Hannah.
The question is: Did Hannah doctor Deb's water bottle with Xanax before or after their confrontation?...

"Secret Santa" had Castle and Beckett celebrating their first Christmas as a couple but would differing traditions and a dead Santa keep them from making merry?
Our Round Table team of TV Fanatic staffers Jim Garner, Chandel Charles, and Christine Orlando are joined here by Castle fan Laura from The 12th Fan Forum as they decide who should be making babies and what new traditions are in order for Caskett next year.
-------------------------------------------
1. What was your favorite scene?
Jim: Watching Rick go through the theory of Santa being part of secret society of guardian Santas. Sometimes he even surprises himself.
Chandel: Castle and Beckett both deciding to start different holiday traditions. How adorable was it that Castle decided to go be with her at the precinct only to find Kate already at his door?!
Christine: I loved the end with the two of them with their foreheads together and the Christmas tree behind them.

Castle closed out 2012 with a fun Christmas installment, one that undoubtedly left its fans saddened that they have to wait five weeks for the show's return, but such is the case with the December midseason hiatus.
Follow the link for our Castle review and discuss Monday's "Secret Santa," then look ahead to the new year with the first promo for Rick and Kate's return. It looks like it could be a bumpy one, given a sudden arrival.
Ex-wives have a way of throwing a wrench into a lot of things, especially if they want to crash with you. Hopefully it's just another bump in the road for the two characters who have come so far in the last nine weeks.

The holiday season is upon us, Castle fans, as this ABC favorite kicked off the month of December with its Christmas-themed episode,"Secret Santa."
There were traditions being broken, new ones being started and a dead Santa crime to solve. Time to discuss...
Santa Fell From The Sky. The weekly case centered around the murder of a man who worked as a Santa during the holiday season. He had taken the job after giving up his Wall Street life because of his company’s actions. It had inflated mortgages, causing many families to lose their homes and Santa Edmund decided to take it upon himself to help one of those out.
Dressing up as Saint Nick is pretty much the perfect disguise. Working a holiday party, Edmund planned to get documents from his old company to prove the case for the families... until he was shot... by his ex-wife. Talk about a holiday downer!

It’s a Christmas tradition at a lot of holiday parties. You might call it “Secret Santa” or “White Elephant” but now it’s getting super-sized and coming to NBC for five consecutive nights. Howie Mandel joins us to talk about what Take It All will mean to the landscape of primetime television, plus Neil Gaiman hits radio and Walking Dead fans can keep the fear going with a new iOS game.

Castle airs its final episode of 2012 tonight, an installment titled "Secret Santa" that doesn't appear to be especially uplifting. At least not based on the following set of clips.
In the first, Rick is confused and depressed, as Martha and Alexia both reveal alternative Christmas plans, breaking the long-time family tradition:
Castle Christmas Clip: What About Tradition?!?
In the second, Espo is wearing cologne as work, prompting Lanie to address her wanna be holiday hookup and pretty much shoot him down on the spot:
Castle Clip: Sad Holiday Hookup?
Finally, Rick and Kate interrogate a murder suspect, someone we typically think of as fat and jolly, not armed and dangerous:
Castle Clip: Interrogating Santa Claus

It seems the only thing I've ever written about Olly Murs is how famous his bulge is in the UK. Beyond that, I really knew nothing about him, until now. When Heat magazine inquired about the source of that bulge, Olly claims to be packing a whopping 13cm. For those of us not on the metric system, that's about 5.2 inches, which doesn't seem to match up with the physical evidence.
As the details of the encounters with Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash and accuser number three come out, the claims are fairly shocking, with tales of alcohol and role playing that emphasized the difference in ages between Clash and the sixteen year old. I keep hoping this isn't true.
Slate posits that the rise in marriage equality hasn't made the United States queerer, if anything it's made the gay community more bourgeois. The recent vote to ban public nudity in San Francisco is used as evidence,...

Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) will be celebrating a very special Christmas this year on "Castle" -- their first as a bona fide couple.
They may not be roasting chestnuts and sipping eggnog, but they will be walking in a winter wonderland ... to find out who murdered Santa!
In "Secret Santa," the couple are called to a snowy crime scene in Central Park, to find a dead man matching the description of Saint Nick: white whiskers, red-and-white costume and stocking cap, black boots -- and Kris Kringle ID. Oh, and he seemingly fell from the sky.
Can the crimefighters solve the case and save Christmas? Find out when "Secret Santa" airs Monday, Dec. 3 at 10 p.m. on ABC.

In The Perks of Being a Wallflower, an introverted boy named Charlie survives the hardships of high school by finding his place in a group of misfits. The magic of Stephen Chbosky’s novel and movie is that the warmth and spirit of these friends leaps off the page, making you believe in their relationships and feel like you too are a part of their quirky group. Miraculously, the same thing happens in Chbosky’s movie — and we think that’s due to his intuitive casting process which gathered a group of actors who became fast friends on the set in Pittsburgh.

When you have your own TV show, you can do things in the office Secret Santa pool that most people can't. Like get a famous, handsome actor to present the gift you're giving -- or actually be the gift.
So it was on "Conan" Thursday (Dec. 22) for a taped bit about Conan O'Brien joining in the staff gift exchange this year. After a few minutes of setup about him not knowing his staff very well, and then putting off getting a gift till the last minute, he came through in a big way for his talent coordinator, Ashley Olivia.
The preamble in the video above is pretty good (especially a bit around the 3:20 mark), but the real fun starts five minutes in, when Conan gives Ashley a framed photo of Jon Hamm, one of her favorite actors. He then laments not having the picture signed -- and calls Hamm out to the stage,...
