That can't be right - I look like a chicken!

I'm glad this finally made it onto Cynthia Nixon's bio page. This is the first thing I ever saw her in and for years it wasn't mentioned on IMDb. I thought it was an Afterschool Special but I guess not. HBO used to run it in the mid-80's with a bunch of other Afterschool Special-type short films (see "The Great Love Experiment" with Tracy Pollan and Esai Morales; "The Truth About Alex" with Scott Baio, etc.) This one is more light-hearted.

ANN, not Amy, Cassidy has a crush on David Angelucci, her substitute English teacher who happens to look just like her favorite soap opera star, Zac Whittier. She thinks he loves her too and makes a fool of herself trying to get him to notice her. Of course, all along there was a guy her own age just perfect for her - the goofy newspaper editor who gives away the ending to "Wuthering Heights" (Robbie Poles played by Todd Graff.) Her best friend Segalbaum shows up from time to time for comic relief and to try to and convince Ann that Robbie is better for her than a fantasy soap-star/substitute teacher.

It's based on the young adult novel of the same name by June Foley and the theme song "Follow My Wildest Dreams" is performed by 60's pop star Leslie Gore ("It's My Party.") Wish this were on video or DVD. We taped it off HBO years ago but I'm sure the tape is lost or broken by now. Whoever owns the rights should make it available to cash in on Nixon's current celebrity. It's a cute short movie - corny, but memorable.
