No genre knows how to express emotions quite like the classic rock power ballad. Case in point: Reo Speedwagon’s “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” A member of the band explained why he wrote it in the first place. Notably, a famous kids’ movie made the song prominent again.
Reo Speedwagon’s ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ is about multiple people
“Can’t Fight This Feeling” was written and co-produced by Reo Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin. During a 2017 interview with Songfacts, he was asked if “Can’t Fight This Feeling” was about a specific individual. He said the tune was about an amalgamation of people. Like many of Cronin’s songs, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” was inspired by something that made him have an emotional reaction.
“But really, what the song is about was about my inability to have the courage to express myself,” Cronin said. “I was brought up in an Irish-Catholic family,...

It's about time for Eric Brady to get the Salem Brain.
His obliviousness to blatant lies and manipulations has gone beyond being a tired soap opera trope. It's a joke at this point!
On Days of Our Lives during the week of 3-18-24, Sloan tries to bar Nicole from the christening ceremony despite Nicole hosting the reception. If that doesn't wake Eric up, nothing will.
The Sloan story has dragged on for far too long. It would be one thing if her malevolence were subtle, but it's anything but.
Sloan complains that Eric puts the baby's needs before hers, freaks out whenever she crosses paths with Leo or Nicole, and drinks entire bottles of wine in minutes to deal with her stress. How can Eric possibly think this is a simple case of Sloan needing to adjust to motherhood?
Unfortunately, those lies probably won't be undone any time soon,...

Another celebrity is bidding farewell to Twitter: beloved Canadian comedian Jim Carrey.
Carrey has long used the social media platform to share his artwork, which has typically been political satire critical of twice-impeached one-term president Donald Trump and assorted Republicans.
Given that history, it’s fitting that Carrey’s final tweet features an animated cartoon based on one of his paintings.

In the TV and film industry, "typecasting" refers to when an actor is consistently given the same kinds of roles. Sometimes, all it takes is a single memorable role for an actor to be cast as a similar character on a regular basis. It can often be a source of frustration for actors who want to branch out and demonstrate their versatility by playing a wide range of characters but are stuck with a label that prevents them from doing so. However, some actors seem to have no problems being constantly cast as the "mad scientist," the "loveable dufus," the "strong silent hero," or another type. After all, a regular paycheck is a regular paycheck.
Some actors have been lucky enough to make a successful career out of sticking to a certain genre only to branch out into roles completely unlike their previous work — often to critical acclaim. Here, we...

(Warning: This post, which was first published July 16, contains spoilers for the premiere of Apple TV+’s “Schmigadoon!”)
If at the end of the series premiere of Apple TV+’s “Schmigadoon!” you, like Josh (Keegan-Michael Key), were more focused on how Martin Short’s leprechaun was shattering your whole construct of what’s real and not real in the world than on what the little magical man was saying, we can’t blame you. Because he was a freakin’ leprechaun played by Martin Short.
But now that you’ve had a moment to adjust, we have some intel from Cinco Paul, the show’s co-creator and showrunner, about the mysterious being that warned Josh and Melissa (Cecily Strong) they’ll be trapped in the literal musical that is the town of Schmigadoon until they can find “true love” — which the couple thought they already had with each other.

Disney is closing down animation house Blue Sky, which is responsible for the “Ice Age” franchise, according to a studio spokesperson.
The former Fox-based animation house produced 13 features that grossed $5.9 billion. Approximately 450 staffers will face termination. Disney inherited Blue Sky in the March 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
“Given the current economic realities, after much consideration and evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close filmmaking operations at Blue Sky Studios,” according to a studio spokesperson.
Disney, already home to Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, has been battered by the Covid-19 pandemic for nearly a year, causing a shutdown of its theme parks, keeping theaters closed and accelerating the shift away from the cable bundle.
Founded in 1987 and based in Greenwich, Connecticut, Blue Sky Studios last released “Spies in Disguise” on Christmas Day 2019. The film grossed $66 million at the domestic box office and $171 million worldwide. The “Ice Age...

Pandemic continues to take heavy toll.
Disney is closing down Blue Sky Studios, the animation house behind the $3bn-plus Ice Age franchise that it absorbed when it acquired the Fox entertainment assets.
It is understood the decision comes as Disney continues to endure a torrid time with its legacy businesses, particularly the theme parks and cruise line operations, amid the pandemic.
According to sources the Disney hierarchy felt it could no longer justify owning three animation studios – the other two being Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

While it’s just over a year or so old, Disney Plus has picked up a significant number of subscribers as it heads into 2021. Although the big release this month will be WandaVision, the Mouse House are continuing to flesh out the library of content and added eight new movies and television shows on January 1st.
After being removed from Disney+ only a few months ago, The Wolverine is back, presumably as the result of a new licensing deal being agreed upon. The James Mangold-directed picture is one of the stronger entries in the Fox X-Men franchise, and sees Hugh Jackman’s character travel to Japan in an adaptation of a popular 1980s comic story. Although it’ll still be some time before we can watch Logan and company all in one place, we’d expect more Marvel-related films to start appearing on the service in the first half of the year.

2020, cursed year that it was, represented the first turn of the calendar since 2009 that did not feature an entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With its list of new releases for January 2021, Disney+ is set to immediately rectify that. Not only is WandaVision the first new McU installment since 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, it’s the first ever Marvel television show from Marvel Studios’ reordering under content czar Kevin Feige.
WandaVision is set to premiere on Jan. 15 and will feature two beloved McU characters Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and The Vision (Paul Bettany). As the trailers reveal, this series will find Wanda and Vis living in domestic bliss in before discovering all is not what it seems. The series will pay homage to classic TV sitcoms and premiere new episodes each Friday.

Disney Plus has a bunch of new titles going up on the first day of 2021, including an underrated animated movie.
Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, as inherited from 20th Century Fox, is one of the most acclaimed adaptations of the classic children’s writer’s work. It sure helps that the voice cast is full of talent, too, including Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell, Selena Gomez, Will Arnett, Jonah Hill, Isla Fisher, Amy Poehler and Seth Rogen.
Horton Hears a Who! follows the titular eccentric elephant with great hearing as he discovers the tiny town of Whoville that exists on a speck of dust and takes it upon himself to protect the citizens there – including Mayor Ned McDodd (Carrell) and his family – from harm in the perilous Jungle of Nool.
Rogen, meanwhile, plays Morton, a mouse who’s Horton’s best friend. The film was an early voice role for the actor,...

Disney Plus is adding a bunch of new titles this January 1st, including two great Jim Carrey family movies that the Mouse House has inherited from 20th Century Fox. Going up on the site on New Year’s Day are a couple of well-received entries in Carrey’s filmography from roughly a decade ago that have nonetheless kind of been forgotten about. Namely, they’re 2008’s Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! and 2011’s Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
Horton Hears a Who! is an animated adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss children’s book and stars the actor as Horton, an eccentric elephant living in the jungle who discovers that Whoville exists on a tiny dust speck. He fights to keep the people of the town – led by Mayor Ned McDodd (Steve Carrell) – safe, though his efforts lead to much upheaval. Disney+ UK has unveiled its September content schedule, and the big centrepiece – as you may have guessed – is the premiere of Mulan, which will skip its UK cinema release after a controversial decision by Disney bosses, who previously hadn’t been very keen to put their upcoming big budget projects on the streaming service during 2020’s ongoing madness.
The unveiling of the highly anticipated live-action Mulan movie on Disney+ seems to be a first step towards bypassing cinemas for the foreseeable future, and it will be interesting to see how successful the gambit is with a price tag of £19.99 attached to the experience. The film certainly has a strong cast, with Liu Yifei as Mulan, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in a supporting role.
If the reviews are strong, funnelling Mulan straight to streaming globally in exchange for some extra cash from subscribers...

The 2018 film The Grinch continues to dominate Netflix, moving up and down the streamer’s top 10 list over the past week or so without ever leaving the rankings. The movie’s popularity should come as no surprise, either, as like many of animation studio Illumination’s efforts, it can rival even Disney when it comes to entertaining younger audiences. Among other things, it also sports an admirable vocal performance from Benedict Cumberbatch.
Based on the beloved story by children’s author Dr. Seuss, The Grinch follows a fuzzy green creature with a bad temperament and a sincere hatred for Christmas. This is a problem for him, as the holiday plays a particularly important role in his native town of Whoville. Rather than suffering through another year’s torment, however, this time the Grinch decides to ‘steal’ it all away.

Audrey Geisel, who was Dr. Seuss’ widow and an executive producer on film adaptions of his books including the recent “The Grinch,” has died, ICM Partners announced in a statement on Friday. She was 97.
Geisel and Dr. Seuss — the pen name of Theodor Geisel — were married from 1968 to 1991, when he died at 87. Two years later, she founded Seuss Enterprises to license the use of the characters. She executive produced animated film adaptations of some of her husband’s most beloved children’s books, such as 2008’s “Horton Hears a Who!,” 2012’s “The Lorax,” and November’s “The Grinch.” In “The Lorax,” the character voiced by Taylor Swift was named after her.
Geisel is also often credited with influencing her husband to address social issues in his work, such as “The Lorax,” which concerns the environment, and “The Butter Battle Book,” which denounces war and nuclear weapons.
Born Audrey Stone in Chicago on Aug.

Last weekend saw the month of November get off to a great start and this weekend should prove just as profitable as several holdovers look to continue their strong performance while Universal delivers the latest animated feature from Illumination in Dr. Seuss' The Grinch. Additionally, Paramount will release the World War II supernatural horror film Overlord and Sony is taking another stab at the Dragon Tattoo franchise with the release of The Girl in the Spider's Web. Expected to easily finish atop the weekend box office we begin with Universal and Illumination's release of The Grinch, debuting in 4,141 locations with the studio anticipating a domestic debut right around $50 million. Based on our analysis, you should expect a performance a bit higher, coming in at the lowest around $53 million with $65+ million serving as the higher end of our forecasted range. "The Lorax": $132m domestic gross (to date). "Horton Hears a Who!": $297m worldwide gross. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas": $345m worldwide gross. Dr Seuss adaptations are a cinematic brand that audiences respond to. Or to put it another way: When Hollywood studios adapt Dr. Seuss books, it's pretty much certain they'll make them big bucks. Even the dreadful live-action "The Cat in the Hat" starring Mike Myers earned more than $100m domestic, so don't be surprised to hear about a "Green Eggs and Ham" movie in the works, sooner rather than later.
The next Dr. Seuss story to make its way to thatres, however, will be one we've already seen. Illumination Entertainment ("The Lorax," "Hop," "Despicable Me") will be trying their luck with "The Cat in the Hat" again, but this time they'll be turning it into a 3D CG-animated feature, rather than a Mike Myers clusterfuck.

One thing that Blue Sky Studios does better than anyone is casting the perfect voice for its colorful characters. Horton Hears a Who! was a hoot, primarily because of the dynamic voice/character melds of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell. The company seems to have outdone themselves with its next feature, based on the trailer for Rio, which features Jesse Eisenberg as an over-domesticated blue macaw, the last male of his species on Earth. Anyone who’s seen Zombieland or The Social Network can imagine Eisenberg as Blu, a reserved creature of habit not fully ready for the wild or the ladies.

Hippie Hippie Shake
Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence...

Recent attempts to bring Dr Seuss to the screen (The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, Horton Hears a Who) have been patchy at best, but we're optimistic that Universal's 3D animated The Lorax could break the trend. The forest-dwelling Lorax first appeared in print in 1971, but his eco-friendly message - "I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees!" - is as relevant today as ever. Kind of a bleak message though. The Lorax' forest is destroyed by big industry, leaving only a polluted wasteland, and the Lorax buggers off into the smog, never to be seen again. Although it's ultimately revealed that the narrator has a single seed left, with which to start the forest again and tempt the Lorax back, we can probably expect that ending to be substantially cheered up.The script will be written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio (who did Horton) according to Variety,...

Jimmy Hayward, who directed the animated "Horton Hears a Who!" will make his live-action debut with "Jonah Hex," the Warner Bros. western based on the DC Comics character.
Josh Brolin is attached to star in the film, which previously had Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor ("Crank") on board as directors. The duo, who also wrote the script, bowed out over creative differences in November. The studio, which hopes to put the movie into production in March or April, went on a fast-track search, putting together a short list that included such names as Andy Fickman and McG before narrowing it down to Hayward.
The character of Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood. One incarnation of his comic book series saw the Western genre combined with supernatural elements,...

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed The Dark Knight Is there any question what everyone is going to buy this week? I would say the only question will be how many units are going to be sold and at what time will Warner Bros. release a press statement saying The Dark Knight is the best selling Blu-ray and DVD of 2008? Speaking of the Blu-ray, if you haven't done so already you can read my review here, or I can just tell you the picture is phenomenal and the features are not. You are buying this one for the movie though, so enjoy. Lost - The Complete Fourth Season Ugh, I just added my Blu-ray review for the fourth season of "Lost" and it is beginning to look more and more like this will either be a TV series to love in its entirety or to absolutely loathe...
