Dark Shadows (12A)
(Tim Burton, 2012, Us) Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley. 113 mins
Another expensive pop-gothic fantasy (remake) for Depp and Burton's gallery – how long before either they get bored or we do? This time Johnny's an effete 18th-century vampire, reawakened in 1972 to reunite with his dysfunctional Addams-like descendants and marvel at the modern world. Expect fish-out-of-water silliness, a light shade of darkness, and the usual descent into messiness.
Café De Flore (15)
(Jean-Marc Vallée, 2011, Can) Vanessa Paradis, Kevin Parent, Hélène Florent. 121 mins
Music and mystery add a great deal to this well-made emotional drama, which switches between a present-day DJ and a 1970s mother (Paradis) whose child has Down's syndrome.
Beloved (15)
(Christophe Honoré, 2011, Fra/UK/Cze) Chiara Mastroianni, Ludivine Sagnier, Catherine Deneuve. 139 mins
Using flashbacks and musical moments, Honoré tells the story of a former prostitute, her daughter and the men in their lives.

America's most patriotic holiday is here, and moviegoers have their pick of the summer's blockbusters to watch over the Fourth of July weekend.
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is looking like it will cash in as the number one movie this weekend.
"Larry Crowne" and "Monte Carlo" will both make wide release debuts as well, and if all goes well with fans wanting to see the lovable duo of Hanks and Roberts, the comedy is...

Marking the biggest April opening of all time, "Fast Five" was supposed to open in June, but Universal took a chance and pushed "Five" up when "Super 8" was slotted for the same release date.

There are comedies like "Bad Teacher" and "Horrible Bosses." There's also the very last "Harry Potter" installment (*sniff*). There's even "Smurfs."
Check out what you can look forward to as the 2011 summer movies roar into theaters,...

"Extra" caught up with lovely actress Cameron Diaz as she was being honored with the CinemaCon Female Star of the Year award in Las Vegas -- and asked her about the rumor that she's developing a movie to star in with real-life beau, baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
"I don't know where these things come from," Diaz laughed. "It's absolutely not true. I don't write. Wow, when did I become a writer?"
Diaz also chatted about...

Back for its third year (see the 2010 edition) and bigger than ever, today kicks off the first in a fifteen-part look at the various cinematic releases hitting the U.S. in 2011. Each 'part' contains brief descriptions and editorial opinion/analysis of varying length covering twenty films. Expect the remaining ones to go up between now and the first major releases in mid-January.
Like all cinematic lists set within a timeframe, there's some overlap. Some films here have already opened worldwide but have yet to hit the U.S., some upcoming films you'd expect to be here aren't because they're either still in development or have already announced 2012 release dates, some were on last year's list but got delayed so have been included again (but with all new analysis).
I confined my list to films that have either set 2011 release dates or had begun/completed production, and only films that have...

British actress Lucy Punch has joined the cast of Dinner for Schmucks, the long-in-development comedy starring 40 Year old Virgin and Anchorman co-stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd that Jay Roach (Meet the Parents) is attached to direct. The film is a remake of the 1998 French film "Le diner de cons" (The Dinner Game), written and directed by Francis Veberm, which focused on a weekly dinner party held by a Paris publisher who challenges his friends to bring the most pathetic guest to the gathering. The new version will follow a character deemed to possess such “extraordinary schmuckiness” that he is capable of ruining the life of anyone who spends more than a few minutes in his orbit. Ali G Show and Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen was originally attached to star when the film was announced back in 2003. It’s been a good year for Punch, whose credits include the...

Could the entire month of July pale in comparison to June? And by June I mean Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which started the end of June by crushing box office competition despite poor reviews. I keep telling myself box office doesn’t equal quality. But before Transformers it kind of did. Star Trek was still going strong, Up was justly racking up the dollars and who isn’t happy with The Hangover? So let’s see if we can get back on track in July, with people giving their money to movies that are worthy of it. Johnny Depp, Brüno, and Harry Potter, I’m counting on you.
July 1 Movie of the Week
Public Enemies
The Stars: Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard, Christian Bale
The Plot: Led by J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), the Feds put Melvin Purvis (Bale) in charge of trying to take down American’s public enemy No.
