Bertha and Albert Selby welcome Michael Brady and his family to Bradley. Austerity after the war is coming to an end. Susan explores the local area, but misses London. The Brady family settle into their new home with help from family and neighbours.
Susan has a paper round. Young people are now "teenagers" and want a different life from the one their parents lived. Albert encourages Bertha to move with the times and they open a coffee bar. Michael wants Susan home by 9pm.
