Being a Son or a Daughter or a Father, None of It Is Easy

On the day of the California Presidential Primary, between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM, Senator David Palmer calls Alan Opticam from Pentagon to break the protocol of an internal investigation in CTU conducted by Regional Director Ryan Chappelle and have a meeting with Jack Bauer. After clarifying the misunderstand about the incident in the power plant with Jack, the Senator discovers that the attempt is not related to the election process or racism, but just a revenge against the Operation Nightfall, which was ordered by him. They call Robert Ellis in New Orleans and explain that someone close to Victor Drazen seems to have connected David Palmer to Jack Bauer and wants revenge on the day of the second anniversary of Nightfall. Ellis sends a couple of missing files and they disclose that Drazen's wife and daughter were in the bunker that was exploded. Palmer forces Chappelle to reinstate Jack Bauer to his position in a provisional status for the rest of the day. Meanwhile Elizabeth is seduced by Drazen's brother and unintentionally provided information about David Palmer and his family. In the safe-house, Teri unravels the past relationship of Nina and Jack.

In the fifteenth episode of "24", Jack Bauer clears his name with Senator David Palmer and they disclose a personal vendetta against themselves and their families. Teri is really pregnant and disappointed with the discovery of the affair of Nina and Jack. The silly Elizabeth is being sexually manipulated and giving the necessary information to the terrorists. The best moment of this show is when Alberta Green is removed by the senator from Jack Bauer's position. The best quote is when Jack says: "Being a son or a daughter or a father, none of it's easy". My vote is nine.

Bauer and Palmer, face to face!

The moment many people were awaiting has finally come: the very first time that Kiefer Sutherland and Dennis Haysbert share the same frame.

The occasion? Having learned Jack Bauer led an operation in Kosovo and was the sole survivor, David Palmer, who authorized that mission, thinks he is out for revenge and requests to speak to him. Once the two meet, though, things are straightened up right away: Jack had no idea Palmer was involved in Operation Nightfall, and a quick phone call to Robert Ellis (Wade Williams), the man who recruited Jack, confirms their worst fears - Andre and Alexis Drazen, sons of the dead terrorist leader Victor Drazen, know about Nightfall and want to punish those behind it, two years after the event. Things might even be easier than one could imagine, given Alexis is sleeping with a woman from the Senator's staff... Meanwhile, at the CTU safe-house, Teri Bauer learns of her husband's past relationship with Nina, and finds it very difficult to cope with such news.

This is a fundamental episode on so many levels: firstly, the real nature of the threat is finally revealed, bringing a refreshingly personal angle to the drama (the conspirators' hatred is increased by the fact that Bauer inadvertently killed their mother and sister as well); secondly, Leslie Hope, having been little more than a scream queen (though in a good way) until now, gets some real actorial meat to chew on, her painfully sincere conversation with Sarah Clarke being one of the season's most poignant instants; last but not least, the interaction between Sutherland and Haysbert is extraordinary, as both players resort to a bag of emotions, including fear and frustration, to form a solid bond that has proved one of the foundations of later years. In addition, fans of Prison Break ("the new 24" according to some) should take a look at Williams (Brad Belllick on PB) playing a secret agent: he may be on the right side, but he still looks and acts (he is, after all, undercover) like a real scumbag.

The best bit, of course, is when Bauer and Palmer realize they have more in common than meets the eye. "Being a son or a daughter or a father, none of it is easy." says Jack. Boy, is he right.

The Real Reason

We are finally let in on why the bad guys are after Jack, his family, and Palmer. The Presidential run is secondary. It all goes back to Kosovo and a bombing. We also find out that Jack's wife is still deeply hurt be Jack's short fling with Nina (which actually isn't resolved). The women are in a safe house and it appears it is about to be a fortress. Jack and Palmer are allies now but there are forces within CTU that are hard to crack. One of the problems in this show is that every once in a while, we are shown a traitor, but there are no clues up till that point.

Re-watch a decade later

Watching all the series seasons again. Still really enjoy it,but am having to FF by Kim and Palmers son. Those two characters are why tigers eat their young.
