Jeopardizing the Mission
claudio_carvalho28 October 2007
On the day of the California Presidential Primary, between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, Alexis receives a phone call and Jack discovers that the criminal has scheduled a payoff in twenty minutes. Jack poses as Alexis, but his backup is Teddy Hanlin, the former partner of one corrupt agent that Jack sent to prison that has a deep resentment against Jack and jeopardizes the mission. Mason hides from Jack that his family is missing. Teri still has amnesia caused by the deep emotional trauma, and Dr. Phil Parslow drives her home under her request. Kim is trapped in Rick's house by Dan's brother Frank. David Palmer tests his wife with a fake tape in the safe and decides to call the press for a conference. Agent Williams, who is protecting the Bauer's house, is murdered by a terrorist while Dr. Parslow and Teri are arriving.

In the seventeenth episode of "24", the consequence of the stupid attitude of Kim endangers her integrity again. I do not understand how CTY may properly work in an environment of envy, treachery, competition, grudge and corruption. I am anxious to see Jack's reaction when he becomes aware about the events in the safe-house. The character of Senator David Palmer is magnificent, showing uncommon honesty and personality. My vote is eight.

Trust is running out
MaxBorg8920 December 2007
Following the thread of the previous show, Episode 18 keeps analyzing trust, or rather the lack of trust that emerges between the series' main characters.

Jack, who seemed to have enough problems already, must deal with the stabbing of Alexis Drazen by Elizabeth Nash, an event that might compromise everything the good people have been fighting for: the assassin was supposed to make a pay-off at 5.20 p.m., so now Jack has to pose as Alexis for the sake of the operation. Teri, still suffering from amnesia, asks Dr. Harslow, an alleged friend of the family, to take her home, unaware of the presence of hit men outside the house. Kim, seeking comfort in Rick's house, finds herself in new trouble as visitors show up with no good intentions. As for Palmer, he tests his wife's loyalty for the last time before deciding whether he should disclose the Ferragamo incident to the public.

A lot of stuff happens in this episode. Fortunately, the writers are able to keep everything together, ensuring all scenes succeed in keeping the viewer alert (minus the pointless Teri storyline, which is thankfully featured less prominently than before). The suspense is kept high as usual, most notably in an unpredictably tense sequence, the tension deriving from the fact no villain is actually present: the problem is Teddy Hanlin (Kirk Baltz, aka the ear-less cop from Reservoir Dogs), whose friends were turned in by Jack for taking bribes, decides to scare Bauer while they're waiting for Alexis' contact to arrive, providing five minutes of thrills by merely talking. Most movies wish they got anywhere near that quality level.

The Good Guys are as Bad as the Bad Guys
Hitchcoc4 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Once again a set up is compromised by people in the Agency. Who are these guys? Jack sets up an elaborate exchange of money only to be squelched by some guy who is carrying a grudge. Meanwhile, his wife is an amnesiac. Kim is in deep doo doo (of course) for trusting the wrong guy she thought she had the hots for. Meanwhile, Mrs. Palmer once again betrays her husband. I think she should have been sent off to Iceland or someplace until the guy becomes President.

Fresh Eyes

Warning: Spoilers
So, like everyone, I'm binging on shows seen years ago - 24 being the latest. Through S1E17...all good. This latest though, exposes either a) the writers taking a lunch break when they should have been providing better lines for Jack's wife or b) that the actress playing Jack's wife...sucks. I can't buy for a second the way she carries on after the car wreck. It's distracting and weakens the episode. Whether or not it's required to continue the plot arch is a poor excuse from this otherwise well-written S1. Setting this blemish aside, 24 still seems to hold up well years later. Will keep watching - what else are we going to do, right?
