After two great episodes this one is more of a bump back down to normal.
It still has its moments, Eric gives a nice speech at the end, but there is a sense that the writers are just letting Richard Lewis go off on comedic flights of fancy to bridge the gaps in a fairly slow episode.
Matt's decision though is fascinating, and that is well played.
As for the B plot involving Mary, Lucy and Robbie - haven't we seen this all before? Robbie has repeatedly told Mary he's with Joy and even if he wasn't he wouldn't be with her, so her actions seem off. The storyline also doesn't work because other than her saying "we have unfinished business" we're provided with no real clue what Lucy's problem is.
If '7th Heaven' were being made today it would probably make half the episodes it did a year and the quality would be more consistent.
