An episode that will be remembered long after viewing.
kfo949423 January 2015
This is one of those episodes that, after seeing, will stick in your memory every time you hear anything connect with the show of 'Pete and Pete'. Even if you have watched the entire collection or just a few shows, because of the way this episode was written you will remember fondly 'Day of the Dot'.

It all begins when the Wellsville Marching Band, also known as the Squids, is picked for competition in a championship. The almost paranoid band director, Mr Markle, had lost the competition a long time ago and now is determine for the fighting squids to lead him to the top. But on the team there is going to have to be a change of attitude. No longer will the band be fun, it is going to be a rough and tough time as the band gets ready for the contest. And when Mr Markle picks Ellen to be the dot in the word 'Squid', Ellen gets caught up in the world that Mr Markle has invented. And big Pete may lose the only girl in the world he cares about.

Not to be outdone, another story has the weird bus driver, Stu Benedict, on a 'Woe-is-me' trip all because he has lost his love, bus driver Sally Knorp. Instead of dropping off kids at their home, Stu rides around town talking about where Sally and him use to be seen together. It turns into a sad and deranged ride as Stu holds the kids, almost like prisoners, as they listen to his upturned life. But little Pete has a plan that will hopefully end this long and disturbing ride.

An entertaining episode that is bound to please most everyone in the bunch. And even years from watching, anytime someone mentions the word 'squid' the viewer will have fond memories of a certain band in a certain town --and smile. Good watch.

Day of the Dot explores romanticism in the most original and unexpected places

There are so many unique and wonder filled Adventures of Pete and Pete. Day of the Dot is still in the 90th percentile by my examination. Not to be brushed off simply as some "kids" program, it plunges the depths of human emotions and is completely refreshing.

See it several times, pause and rewind scene by scene. Don't just watch it, savor the bouquet, drink in every precious marching step of this episode.

It hits all the right notes and doesn't miss a beat. From hydrogen atoms that might have fused, to the Voodoo Crispy, Diesel Jerk and the Love Roller-coaster.

Along the route of this episode's narrative, there are suggestions about the pure absurdity of our own existence at every turn (eg. Members of the band seriously consider the plans of the self obsessed band dictator to win a lackluster contest).

Move on to ALL the other episodes, and when the time is right, watch this one again. You won't be disappointed!

Visionaries, McRobb and Viscardi produced these gems in what will become the "Golden Age" of cable TV. The planets and stars were aligned in some mysterious configuration which may never be attained again. We are lucky enough to have The Adventures of Pete and Pete as recorded evidence of such an event.

Lighting up the Universe

It's sometimes a common thing in friendship for people of the opposite sex, it comes to a point in their life when one or both begin to see each other differently and realize their more than friends and what they have together is something greater than friendship.

This episode is my third favorite of the show. For those that have seen the shorts and the specials, you probably saw this coming for both Ellen and Pete. The whole episode by it's nature is really a big build up to the climax (hense that science film) which is common for a lot of shows but this is one of the good ones.

We want both Pete and Ellen together, we don't want them separated by anything and anyone, and when it does happen we want them to find a way back to one another; kinda like with the show "Macross" we want Misa and Hikaru together.

I like the band plot line which of course is the perfect obsticale for Old Pete to contend with, he's littlerally one against a force of evil whom are the blowhole Band Teacher and his nefew whom are both incapable of love except for the glory their obsessed with attaining and are doing everything to keep both Old Pete and Ellen from connecting. Despite Old Pete's efforts to save Ellen's soul, he is just getting downtrodden.

I'll admit there was one moment where the nefew humulates Old Pete in a scuffle, that one thing he said to Old Pete just made me want to take that trumpet of his and shove it up....well you don't want to know; but yeah things like that and how much further apart Ellen is being drivien away from him just all the more made me want Old Pete to win.

There is even a subplot with Stu Benedict whom forces his passangers to go on his misery tour, it's really funny as he is just a sad pitiful sack. But his dilemma and Old Pete's parallel as both are separated from the one's they love all because both failed to take a chance in love.

Really like that speech near the end that Stu gives which I personally things that's part of what love is about and is the theme of this episode. If you ever find love or love comes; follow your feelings, risk it all, take a chance because it's the only way to truly connect to the one you love. Will Pete take that chance and light up the universe with Ellen, you have to wait and find out.

Pete and Ellen make beautiful music together.
