Enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
This show is about a supposed handyman who has come to town (Edgar Buchanan). At first he seems to work hard and for little money. He also seems quite smitten with Aunt Bee and vice-versa, but over time it becomes obvious that he's just a lazy good-for-nothing. Again and again, he promises to do things but repeatedly Andy is left doing the actual work. An interesting story and the first that acknowledges that Aunt Bee actually might have a sex drive! Well written and worth seeing though not a particularly funny one nor do you get to see Barney--two minuses. Still, it's memorable and worth seeing--and Buchanan is quite good in this unusual role.

Unrequited

When handyman Edgar Buchanan shows up and admit to eating in his truck, Aunt Bee invites him to supper. He is a nice man, but he is a phony. He offers to do jobs around the place but cons Andy into doing them. It is obvious that the guy will stay as long as he is taken care of without offering any remuneration.

Aunt Bee's Shining Moment

Warning: Spoilers
I suppose I'm using this platform to express my opposition to complaints about Frances Bavier, usually related to things they have read about her personality. More on this later. Ms. Bavier is a perfect fit for this show, and this episode showcases her acting ability; whether it be her palpable joy on having a male friend to go out on a date with, or her sadness and confusion on his sudden departure. No this is not a very funny episode, but very touching and real. I would not criticize Ms. Bavier for being honest about her unhappiness with her "lot in life"; being "Aunt Bee" and not much else. Sorry if she brought some negativity to the set (did she?); but she never let it show in her characterization on the show. She was a true pro and deserves praise for her invaluable contribution to the series.

If the final scene makes Andy seem a bit harsh at Aunt Bee's kindness toward another handyman appearing on the scene, I've decided that he feels she can do better; plus he doesn't need more complications in his life.

Always loved this episode

Edgar Buchanan masterfully plays Henry "Goldbrick" Wheeler. Uncle Billy from "Leave It To Beaver", and his role in Alfred Hitchcock's "Coyote Moon" are also memorable. He drops his guard here multiple times giving Andy clues he's a con man. Andy is blinded by the happiness Aunt Bea is having. A deep story of loneliness cured, then ulterior motives revealed. Also a stellar episode for Frances Bavier. An appearance from George Cisar of "Dark Shadows". Mailmen Doodles Weaver will later be Regis in the gold shipment episode. A pure viewing joy. One of the series best.

Hooterville, here I come !!

Aunt Bea was very close to leaving Mayberry in this one. Andy would have dropped her off at the depot and soon she would have been on the Cannonball rolling into H-Ville with Uncle Joe, who is still moving slow at the junction. Haha.

Cold Solution

Warning: Spoilers
Andy could've waited to pull his shotgun wedding reference until after breakfast the next morning, instead of sending Mr. Weaver off in the night on an empty stomach. Not the kind Andy we're used to seeing.
