Star struck
kellielulu26 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The idea of wanting to base a show on Sheriff without a gun is believable enough and the people of Mayberry are certainly star struck . Barney does the usual exaggerating. Andy at least should have been a little more suspicious sooner. This team of television writers and production assistant are the most fawning group to ever hit Mayberry. They show no arrogance or and endlessly praise and give deference to everyone they met . Andy is so awe shucks around Pat the young female production assistant it's amusing. By the time Andy figured it out it could have been too late but he does . Barney is caught again being too gullible and boasting. Still I think it works because the writing and acting get the tone just right. The end with Barney's idea for a tv show is full in character Barney!

Barney and the Big Time
Hitchcoc17 December 2019
When a piece is published in a small print magazine extolling the virtues the "the sheriff without a gun." That's Andy. Wouldn't you know it. Some TV producers decide to use Mayberry as the setting for a show. Barney is blown away and does his usual big talking, self centered thing. If we've ever seen the show before, we know what's coming. It doesn't matter. It's pretty funny.

Last name Beasley
scottie_stanley19 February 2021
Not sure what significance the last name Beasley has with the writers but it is used several times throughout the series. Goober Beasley, Juanita Beasley at the diner, Floyd mentioned Andrew Beasley in The Case of The Punch in The Nose, Andy mentions sending a copy of Opie's report card to Edgar Beasley in Opie's Ill Gotten Gain, Charlie Beasley with his bulging muscles, and Loraine Beasley in A Wife For Andy, Who is this Beasley you speak of.....

Goober WHO?
jopflah3 January 2020
Isn't Goober GOOBER PYLE? The credits say he is but Andy introduced as Goober Beasley. What gives?

It's all Andy's fault
yppykya29 March 2021
An article about Andy not carrying a gun brings tv writer, secretary, and producer to town.

Never guessing that they might be crooks, they show them their town bank and basically help case the bank for the crooks.

When I was a kid I just laughed at the silly things Barney did, but as an adult I realize that Andy has enough experience with Barney to know better than to trust Barney not to do the things Andy has told him not to do.

So it's Andy's fault when Barney gums things up!

In this episode, all turns out well in the end, but Andy should have known this bunch might just be crooks looking for an easy score in a town where the Sheriff doesn't Cary a gun.

Still for nostalgia's sake I give all these episodes a 10 rating.

Doesn't get much better than this

George Ives (Mr Harvey), Barbara Stuart (Pat Blake), & Gavin McCloud (Mr Jamel) are perfectly cast as the bad guys.

Andy is extremely lax in security. No background check of the 3. Gives them the total run of the town. Leaves Pat Blake alone in the jail with possible classified documents. Never gets an ok from his superiors to clear it with them to even pursue the tv show.

Lots of hilarious comedy. A few favorite scenes are Barney's name misspelling, "what do you call a gun?... I've made a note of that... I may want to see the vault...Cut!", Barney waving through Miss Blake after contemplating patting her down, and Goober & Floyd pointing rifles.

Some of the series funniest Barney scenes. Season 5 is absolutely loaded with classic Barney. Very funny epilogue with Barney continuing his script description that focuses mostly on him and his courage.
