It's like potato chips....you can't stop with just one.

Bill Sanderson (Andrew Duggan) is the owner of the Los Angeles Wildcats, the best team in pro basketball. He has a lot to be happy about...he has a great team and they are expected to win in the playoffs. But this is all thrown into doubt when he learns that one of his players once shaved points in a game to help out his ne'er do well brother-in-law. He tells this player to forget it...but the brother-in-law is still a problem. He won't back down and insists they either shave off a few points for his gambler friends OR he'll go to the press to tell them about the point shaving and the star player is sure to be suspended...or worse. In anger, Bill slugs the guy...and kills him. Now at this point, he could have contacted the police and said it was an accident or that the guy was shaking him down...but instead he decides to hide the body! And, when this brother-in-law disappears, his sister contacts Barnaby Jones to find him.

In several instances, Bill behaves foolishly...not just in not informing the police but also for involving his slow-witted friend in the affair. This seems out of character for him....as do his other behaviors. See the show, see what I mean. Additionally, this is a STRANGE looking champion basketball team, as everyone looks so short and unathletic!

Overall, an interesting show but with one or two too many plot holes. Still, well worth seeing...just not among the better episodes of the series.

I CAN SETTLE THIS BY BURYING YOU IN CEMENT!
tcchelsey17 March 2023
There are lots of theories about what happened to Teamster president Jimmy Hoffa, however, being dumped into a cement grave always seems to turn up. This is the fate for somebody who "knows too much..." in this intriguing mystery.

Andrew Duggan, a tall, rugged guy, adept for a variety of roles, owns a Los Angeles basketball team, called the LA Wildcats. It turns out his star player has a connection to some gamblers, and the walls are closing in FAST.

It's a familiar sports story, but well written with Barnaby up against some lethal characters. He also pulls a CANNON in one scene jumping out of the way of a speeding truck!

George DiCenzo plays Sy and Reni Santoni plays Tony, best known for his young cop role in DIRTY HARRY. He's the one who uttered the iconic line "He always gets the (blank) at the end of the stick!"

Also look for CAGNEY AND LACEY regular Sidney Clute and listen closely for Mike Road as the basketball announcer. Road is best known as Race Bannon from the JOHNNY QUEST cartoon series, among many ther animation projects. We also get a glimpse of the famous Forum, now called the Kia Forum, minutes from LAX airport.

Barnaby also offers a neat scientific theory about the contents of a bag of cement? Listen closely.

Recommended, much in the tradition of a COLUMBO episode. SEASON 2 EPISODE 24 CBS dvd box set.
