A Godfather Parody And Lily Tomlin
Jimmy_the_Gent44 April 2020
A very good song filled show, there is no Q&A, it begins with a production number of the 1969 minor hit song 'We're All Playing In The Same Band" and Mac Davis' "I Believe In Music". Carol is joined by the whole cast and guest stars Steve Lawrence and Lily Tomlin (her only appearance on the show).

Tomlin is given a solo comedy spotlight as a woman ditched in a restaurant by her date. It is a funny and somewhat poignant monologue.

Next is a Carol and Sis sketch. Carol is being visited by an old college friend (Tomlin) who was just divorced. Carol thinks she needs cheering up and tells Roger he needs to stay instead of playing golf. It turns out she is very cheerful and flirty and charms Roger. Harvey does the funky chicken in the funniest scene.

Steve gets a musical moment where he sings Hoagy Carmichael's "I Can Get Along Without You Very Well" and the current Harry Nilsson hit "Without You"

Steve then plays the Godfather (with cotton in his mouth) and Carol plays his new bride. He is visited by Lyle as a hoodlum who gets the kiss of death. Harvey plays a baker who talks and talks in a parody of the opening scene of the movie where a man begs Don Corleone for a favor.

There is a very funny women in prison sketch with Tomlin as the guard who uses fingernails on a blackboard to torture. Carol is the tough new inmate, Vicki is her ditzy cell mate.

The Charwoman has a nice scene where she comes to a showgirl dressing room and tries to put on the costumes. She sings a couple of songs from the musical "Sweet Charity".

Carol sings her theme song at the end and Steve and Lily join in.
