Great Christmas Episode

Alan Alda guest stars with some sketches for the Christmas season.

One of the best of the season. It begins with a Q&A with some young girls giving gifts to Carol. One of them gives her a bouquet of roses but says one rose is for Alan Alda. Carol brings Alda onstage to meet the girl, she is overcome with emotion on meeting her idol.

The first sketch is a hilarious Family Christmas. Eunice's artist brother Larry (Alda) is visiting to surprise Mama. Ed thinks Larry may be "peculiar" since he draws pictures and is not married. Mama arrives and she and Eunice get into an argument since sister Ellen did not come over. Mama reminds Larry he never thanked his aunt for a coloring book as a child. It ends with more yelling and arguing and Larry leaves in a huff.

Another Christmas sketch has Alda as a department store Santa and Carol as a gift wrapper. They bungle their jobs and sing a nice duet "Nobody Does It Like Me".

A sketch follows where Carol and Alda play a couple coming home from a first date. He says romantic things but Carol finds out that he gets his lines from old movies.

The final sketch is a tribute to New York. "New York, New York" from "On The Town" is sung along with "42 Street". Harvey plays an angry cab driver and a pickpocket. Vicki plays a hooker.

Carol makes a public service announcement about pollution when the cast takes their bows and Alda signs Carol's autograph book.
