Subpar

Slow episode with little action or suspense. College basketball games fixed by gamblers bribing players was a live concern in the early 1950's. Here it gets rather lame treatment from Decoy. Much of the time is spent with Casey winning confidence of a key bribed player. Actors go through the motions but results are pretty static. Plus actor Hastings doesn't much look like a basketball whiz, being barely taller than Casey. Then too, the two gamblers are thuggish when you would expect at least one to be a slickster. At least Casey gets to dress up prettily as a college girl. All in all, however, it's a sub-par entry, at least in my little book.

By keeping him alive I was killing him

***SPOILERS*** In the first "Decoy-Police Woman" episode of the 1958 season undercover policewoman Casey Jones, Beverly Garland, is assigned to go undercover as Judy Philips the sister of the late Bobby Philips who together with his girlfriend HazelBPhelps was killed in a suspicious car accident. That's after Bobby decided not to play ball or basketball with gangster Frank Heenderson,Sam Gray, in throwing the big game between State University and Indiana for the collage basketball championship.

It's now now Bobby's friend and fellow basketball player Dave Carter, Don Hastings, who's now being blackmailed by Henderson to shave points ore else he'll end up like Philips did if he doesn't. Casey/Judy soon finds out that Dave is doing all this to get money to pay for his dad's hospital bills who's dying of terminal cancer and is willing to go to jail or end up like Bobby in doing do that. It's later that Casey/Judy finally gets Dave to see the light in what he's been doing and has him change his mind, not to throw the champion game, but now he has to face Henderson and his goons for not coming through for them.

***SPOILERS**** It's policewoman Casey Jones and a squad of NYC police who come to Dave's rescue when Henderson & Co. were about to do the guy in and have all charges against Dave later dropped. That's for him coming clean and testifying against Henderson in both shaving points and his involvement in both Bobby and his girlfriend Hazel's murder. As for Dave's dad keeping from him what he did to keep him alive, by throwing basketball games for Henderson, was the best thing he could do for him. He could now peacefully pass away knowing that his son Dave did the right thing on and off the basketball court.
