What's the matter with Flintstone? He's allright!

Warning: Spoilers
I think my next 3 reviews will be sports related. This episode is The Golf Champion from Season 1, written by Warren Foster, Mike Maltese and Arthur Phillips. John Stephenson does a lot of voices here, including a radio announcer and a bystander. Plot summary: Fred is at the 18th hole of the Golf Tournament. He has to play on top of a dinosaur's head and in a sleeping brontosaurus's mouth to beat Charlie, which he does! Fred wins a giant Loving cup. However, trouble ensues as Barney confiscates it, even though Fred nominated him President of the Country Club after running for 3 terms. Barney says the rules clearly state "No member is entitled to his trophy unless he pays his dues. Fred is only a month overdue and bangs the trophy on top of Barney's head as a sign of protest. At home, Fred has Wilma check the Rubbles' house to claim what Barney borrowed. All Wilma comes home with is a can opener (who happens to prefer the Rubbles' food!). Meanwhile, Barney has to sneak some of his stuff back from Fred's house. He takes his bucket back which still has Fred's water. So Barney throws the water on Fred, which leads to a chase and at the Rubbles, Barney has a new dog named Buzzsaw. Buzzsaw doesn't like Fred much and bites him (he has a snicker similar to Mutley, Precious Pup and Mumbly). Fred later tries enjoying a game of golf. The only problem is he's using Barney's golf club, golf ball and tee, and Barney takes back each one as Fred is playing! This leads to another chase and another meeting with Buzzsaw! Betty suggests Barney go over to Fred's house, offer him the cup on the condition the dues are paid up. Barney comes home wearing the cup once again! Fred tries enjoying a nap on a hammock that- you guessed it! The hammock belongs to Barney. Fred orders Barney to let go of the hammock, which leaves Fred sailing into the air and into the refrigerator at his house. Wilma wishes Fred would pay his dues so he could get his cup back and the Flintstones and Rubbles could be friends again. Instead, Fred plans a party with Joe Rockhead (whom Fred really hates), Malcolm Quartz (who caused damage on their property) and Left-foot Charlie (who's no Gene Kellystone). Fred plays the music loudly, with Wilma being forced to dance with Charlie. The guests sing "What's the matter with Flintstone? He's allright!" There's a giant steak. Fred asks the chef to blow smoke in Barney's yard. Then the phone rings. The Rubbles are away for the weekend and asked the milkman to leave no milk. When Fred hears this, he cancels the party and orders everyone to get out! When the Rubbles come back, they come up with a plan. The 2 wives pay Fred's membership and Fred comes home with his trophy! So Fred invites Barney over. Barney compliments the cup being on the mantle and suggests he could've beat Fred in the championship! This starts another argument and the 2 challenge each other to a golf game! Betty says "Thank goodness they're friends again!" What I liked: 1st of all, I liked the obstacles Fred has to play golf with. I also liked the record player with the monkey and bird operating it. I also liked the music at the party, provided by Hoyt Curtin, beginning with Dixie, then a waltz, then a tango. Finally, I liked the way Fred and Barney made up after being sore at one another throughout most of the cartoon. So I give this cartoon 10 loving cups out of 10!

Best episode so far

So many funny lines, bits, and scenes it's impossible to list them all. Fred had more shots than his competitor and won the golf match? Fred shooting off the dinosaur's head, then from inside one's mouth were really hysterical. Barneys head taking the shape of the trophy when pulled off, then walking around inside the trophy were funny. I always remember "What's the matter with Flintstone? He's all right" as a kid watching. Nothing monumental, but memorable. John Stephenson did a bunch of great voices. His normal announcer's voice is one of the best. Wilma limp legged dancing, and Betty doing a Barney impression cracked me up. Just a hilarious episode from start to finish. Usually the beginning sets up the hi-jinks but this one rocked from the very beginning.
