For a guy who complains about Pyle, Sergeant Carter has a harder time getting the bumbling private out of his life. Still Carter is happiest when he's yelling his head off. And Carter takes solace the Privates can't do a thing without him. Of course, these guys can't be that helpless. After all Carter drilled good habits in these guys. This movie is about wanting to feel needed. Creates a real dilemma since the men want to show Carter they can survive with out him. The more efficient the platoon does under Boyle's tutelage the less Carter is needed. Roy Stuart is a great supporting actor. This is one of his best parts.
