This is a good Goodes episode, but with some weak points. On the positive side, it sure is funny and has an excellent ending, but on the other hand, some of the slapstick is too simple. In particular, the sequence when they hide in the car stretching out false legs in various directions is severely over-used and not funny in the long run. This reduces the enjoyment with the slapstick part.

But the funny moments dominate. Highlights include the exploding trousers, the villain saboteur, and french people dressed in stripes, beret and carrying baguettes, Greame's home- made car, and the driving exercise with Bill as pedals. So the episode very much ends up at the higher part of the scale.

The Race

The Goodies enter the 24 Hours Le Mans car race. Only there is a French saboteur trying to disrupt them. It is all a bit wacky like Monte Carlo or Bust.

With Britain joining the European Common Market. There was a jingoistic element to this episode. Britain could do it better than the continentals.

The French are dressed in stripes and berets. The Terry Thomas inspired villain has a twirly moustache. There are even can can girls.

The Race round up the fourth season of The Goodies in a slapstick fashion. The highlight being the Goodies house is turned into a car as well as Tim learning to drive and Bill pleading to him not to press the clutch.
