Another wonderful Vashon episode.
planktonrules10 December 2010
Despite what some think, there were actually four episodes about the Vashon family. This is the second one and it picks up right after the first. Through his own stupidity and hubris, Chris Vashon is killed in a shootout with McGarrett. Yet, inexplicably, the young man's father (Honore) and the grandfather hold McGarrett responsible and vow revenge. In the only weak point in the show, the pair send a photo of a tombstone to McGarrett with his name on it--not exactly subtle or well-conceived if you think about it. Naturally McGarrett and Five-O are on guard and despite this, Honore's plan nearly works. While all of the episode is good, the ending and how they capture the assassin is very good--and reminiscent of an old Sherlock Holmes film where a statue is used to attract the assassin's bullet. Very interesting, though the episodes immediately before and after are just a bit better.

A must see for any fan of television history

This show, the only three-parter of the series, is one of, if not the best of the entire series. This three parter could have been on the big screen. The major actors (Harold Gould, Luther Adler, Robert Drivas, Don Knight) all give excellent performances, and many of the Five-O stock performers (Arthur Hee, Moki Palacio, Yankee Chang, David Espinda, Galen Kam, Robert Costa, Beau Vanden Ecker) are on hand as well. There are freeze-frames employed during a courtroom sequence in part one, and when McGarrett looks out his office to the building across the street in part two. Robert Luck plays Sullivan, who was "pushing junk to high school kids." During the final show, lawyer Harvey Mathieson Drew (John Stalker) is being blackmailed by the elder Vashon. Kwan Hi Lim plays the Vashons' very slimy henchman Tosaki.

As Good as the First Installment

Blaming him for his son's death, father Honore Vashon (Harold Gould) conspires with retired family patriarch Dominick (Luther Adler) to murder McGarrett. After a failed attempt using local talent, an assassin is imported from overseas to do the job. The episode centers around Five-O's efforts to uncover the details, identify the killer and thwart the plot.

'V' For Vashon: The Father is every bit as good as Part I. Particularly enjoyable in this tension-filled hour are the clandestine meetings between Honore and the various principals involved with the scheme. Harold Gould and Luther Adler once again perform their roles well, as do actors Don Knight and Kwan Hi Lim as the assassin and faithful family henchman respectively. A satisfying set-up for the final episode of the trilogy.

The sins of the father
VetteRanger30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The sins of the father were visited on the son in part one of the only trilogy I can remember in classic 60s or 70s television series. (Forget the five-episode opening of 77 Sunset Strip's last season. It was wretched).

In V for Vashon: The Son, the latest generation of the family made the mistake of going on a crime spree and ending it by getting in a shootout with Steve McGarrett. Now his father, Honore, blames Steve for his own failures as a father and moves to keep his promise that McGarrett must die.

The only problem? Steve is no fool, and has international resources at hand. They know the hit man's plan before the hit man plans it himself. And so Honore Vashon goes to prison for ten years, and the patriarch of the family vows, "My turn".

Vashon: The Father--My favorite episode.
lrcdmnhd7221 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The four part Vashon series are some of my favorite Hawaii Five episodes. Of this four part series, Vashon, the Father, is my favorite. After Christopher Vashon is killed by McGarrett during an armed robbery attempt, the father and grandfather seek revenge.

A contract killer is hired to kill McGarrett. He almost succeeds. It is stated in the goofs section that this hit man didn't use the charging handle on the AR-15 or M16 rifle to chamber a round. I watched the episode and he did. After this hit-man got rid of the police women, he immediately went to his rifle and fired it (no silencer?). I would have waited for a few minutes to make sure she was gone.

In the 3d Vashon episode, when Harvey Matheson Drew stated at McGarrett's trial that he wasn't sure that the gunshots may have been backfires, the defense should have objected stating that Drew was not an expert in that area. To me, a weakness in this story.
