John Vernon and Michael Julian
kevinolzak8 November 2014
Native Canadian John Vernon makes his sixth of eight appearances in "The Reckoning," which begins as Lieutenant John Ewing (Michael Julian, second of three) is returning to Fort Oshkosh when he witnesses an attempt on the lives of Hawkeye and Chingachgook by a Winnebago arrow. Reporting to the fort's Major Richard Duffy (Chris Wiggins, fourth of six), Ewing learns of the ongoing conflict between the Winnebagos, Senecas, and the white men. It is Ewing's former blood brother Eliwasset (Vernon) responsible for stirring up trouble, a rude awakening for the naïve lieutenant to find his boyhood friend now his deadliest enemy, so once Hawkeye saves him from Eliwasset's tortures they must find a way to defend Fort Oshkosh. The wintry climax features an unexpected twist that makes for another above average episode, John Vernon again a strong villain.
