If You're Not a "Pet" Fan You May Find This Annoying

You need to be a Petula Clark fan to really appreciate this episode. Otherwise, it's another of those shows where Lucy spends the whole thing annoying the guest star and making a huge pest of herself. If you aren't really big on Petula I would say it only rates 5 stars. It has shades of the Sammy Davis Jr. Episode or the John Wayne episode of The Lucy Show. I rated it a 7 because I've been a fan of Ms. Clark's music since I was a teen in the Eighties and the local radio station would play her hits whenever they had a retro special.

I really wish Petula had sung one of her big signature hits, but the plot revolves around a recording session-not a concert-so it makes sense that she's singing something "new". It's actually just a cover version of "Going Out of My Head"-the Little Anthony & the Imperials hit from 1965. Of note, Petula was 40 years old here (and pregnant) and looks about 10 years younger.
