Lucy and Ethel vs. The Fur
gregoryserrano12 July 2020
This is one of the first episodes to give Ethel somewhat of a voice and narrative, albeit still largely focused on Lucy. There's not a lot of solid comedy here but definitely more than solid acting and storyline. This episode also influenced a lot of later television, as is seen in Three's Company when Chrissy mistakes Mrs. Roper's gift as her own, as well as Mama's Family when Thelma thinks Vint's boss' gift for his wife is from Vint to her.

frankmortjr14 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Ricky brings home a very expensive fur coat that he borrowed to use in his nightclub act. He brought it home for safe keeping. He walks into his apartment and Ethyl is there. Ethyl thinks Ricky bought the coat for Lucy. She is so envious. Ricky sets her straight and explains that the expensive fur coat is for a woman in his nightclub act to wear for the show. Ethyl wants to try it on. Fred is in the Ricaro's apartment now. Fred sees Ethyl with the coat on and thinks the coat is for Lucy too. He informs Ricky that Ricky is making it bad for all the other husbands by getting such an expensive fur coat for his wife. Now all the other wives will want one too. Ricky explains the situation to Fred, Fred is relived. Ricky wants to hide the coat before Lucy gets home. According to Ethyl Lucy went shopping and will be back soon. Before Ricky can hide the coat Lucy walks into the apartment and sees Ethyl wearing the fur coat. Lucy starts crying as see thinks Fred purchased the fur coat for Ethyl. Lucy has always wanted one very much! She calls Ricky cad and all other types on names. She runs away into the bedroom angry and jealous. Ricky explains to Lucy that it is not Ethyl's fur coat. So not Lucy thinks Ricky bought her the coat for their anniversary. Now Ricky does not know what to do as he thinks he has forgotten their anniversary. So he allows Lucy to think it is her coat, he does this against his better judgment. Ricky is thinking along with his buddy Fred on how to get the coat away from Lucy. He thinks he will take it when she does not have it on or when she is asleep and open a few drawers in the apartment and pretend a burglar stole the coat. The trouble is Lucy does everything with the fur coat on. She washes dishes with it on. She even sleeps with it on. Ricky wants Fred to pose as a burglar and steal the coat off Lucy while she is wearing it. Fred reluctantly accepts. The problem arrives because a real burglar arrives before Fred. Ricky thinks it is Fred and tries to give the coat to the real burglar without a fight. Lucy is agast! Well, the burglar does not get the coat and then Fred comes to steal the coat. No one gets the coat but Lucy. Good news and a happy ending.

All that glitters is not fur.

Warning: Spoilers
Misunderstandings are about when Ricky brings home a fur coat to hide from Lucy For an upcoming dance in his act. Lucy walks in while Ethel is modeling it and begins to think that it is Ricky's present for their anniversary. Fred and Ricky conspire to get the coat back by arranging a robbery, and when Lucy finds out the truth, she decided to teach Ricky a lesson. This episode, back when furs were commonplace and protests probably non-existent, is a far cry from episodes involving minks on Designing Women and Golden Girls 30 years later. Veteran character actor Ben Welden is very funny as an actual burglar who invades the Ricardos while Fred is sneaking up a ladder into their bedroom. A very funny episode where the fur doesn't just fly, it's also sniped.

The fur flies !

Warning: Spoilers
Ricky brings home an expensive fur coat it's not for Lucy it's for a number down at the club. Lucy isn't home so Ricky shows it to Ethel and she wears it . Lucy comes home and gets the wrong impression first thinking it's Ethel's then that it's hers. From there Ricky tried numerous ways to get it back without telling her the blunt truth.

The funniest part is when Fred is supposed to pretend to be a prowler and steal the coat . But a real one breaks in first and the back and forth between the prowler and Lucy is hilarious when he's going to shoot Lucy says wait and pulls up the coat so he won't damage it and then says go ahead! Ricky tries to give him the coat thinking it's Fred. Then Fred is climbing in the window and the prowler runs out Ricky tossing the coat for him to take! Lucy grabs it and goes to call the police.

Fred says he wasn't just there scaring him and Ricky.

Ethel finally tells Lucy the truth and she gets an Imitation coat to cut up in front of Ricky causing him to faint!

Underrated episode.

Th fur coat

Warning: Spoilers
A misunderstanding episode that influenced other comedy shows like Three's Company for example. My favorite part is that Lucy loves the coat so much when the real burglar came she rather get shot then him take the coat. She lifts up the coat and says go ahead to her stomach as the target. And what's cool is she styles the fake coat with Ethel to trick Ricky thinking it's the real one, but look at the result a mink t-shirt you see those today. Fashion ahead of its time.

The only episode I didn't care for
ttbrzfmqdy8 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As I'm required to write a 600 word review I'm going to start of with some positives.

I adore I love Lucy and Lucille Ball and Desi Are fantastic, i also think that this show paved the way for all sitcoms that came after it. (Friends and Frasier certainly copied some devices that was used for "comedy").

This episode starts off well it really does, but it isn't until Lucy walks in all happy and joyful and then the jealousy kicks in....... And so do the bratty tears and here is where my gripe with this episode starts, it's the childish behaviour of Lucy that absolutely spoils the mood of trying to watch this episode.

I think the title should be changed to "Lucy the Brat" because that's definitely what she is in this episode.

Lucy being horrible
FloRidaDude7910 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'd like to say parts of this episode were okay but for the most part it isn't. The real burglar in the apartment and Lucy's refusal to take off the mink even when he threatened to shoot her (she lifts the coat up so not to ruin it, that was funny) and Fred is always good for a laugh but the whole storyline is just bad. Now for the parts that really stinks. Lucy jumps to the conclusion that the coat is for her and can't shut up for a minute to let Ricky explain that it's not. When Ethel tells her the truth she gets obsessed with retaliating against her husband...for what? What exactly is she mad about? It's not like he tried to fool her by buying her the imitation. And on top of it all she gets gifted a new wardrobe and it isn't even her anniversary! Another review called her a brat and I agree completely.
