You'd think that by the tone of this episode that Lucy is suffering from postpartum depression, but that's not the case. As we find out in the opening scene, Lucy is still in the hospital and Ricky, Fred and Ethel reminisce about the time that Lucy was depressed because she felt she could do nothing right, spoiling Ricky's breakfast, and unable to think of one thing that she's good at. We know that's false because we've seen her make breakfast for Ricky several times, and it's been perfect. In fact, she is a perfect housekeeper. The only thing is that when she gets grand ideas that take her out of her home is when she messes up. So a psychiatrist pal of Ricky's comes over and fawns over Lucy, going a bit too far in his adoration, and when Lucy finds out what Ricky and his friend did, it makes her condition all the worse.
These episodes were filmed during the time when Lucy was preparing to give birth to Desi Jr. So it explains why scenes were filmed earlier and inserted in.
So if you go into this knowing that there's a delay in the continuous action from where Lucy had her baby, you'll find the situation amusing, especially when they try to boost her confidence and she starts singing which of course it is not a confidence boosting moment simply by the reaction they give her. Gerald Moore as the psychiatrist (you'll love Ricky's pronunciation of that word) is delightfully over the top, and Lucy's change of moods throughout the episode shows her range. I wouldn't call this a classic episode but it is a well done one.
