Another "flashback" episode.

Warning: Spoilers
You'd think that by the tone of this episode that Lucy is suffering from postpartum depression, but that's not the case. As we find out in the opening scene, Lucy is still in the hospital and Ricky, Fred and Ethel reminisce about the time that Lucy was depressed because she felt she could do nothing right, spoiling Ricky's breakfast, and unable to think of one thing that she's good at. We know that's false because we've seen her make breakfast for Ricky several times, and it's been perfect. In fact, she is a perfect housekeeper. The only thing is that when she gets grand ideas that take her out of her home is when she messes up. So a psychiatrist pal of Ricky's comes over and fawns over Lucy, going a bit too far in his adoration, and when Lucy finds out what Ricky and his friend did, it makes her condition all the worse.

These episodes were filmed during the time when Lucy was preparing to give birth to Desi Jr. So it explains why scenes were filmed earlier and inserted in.

So if you go into this knowing that there's a delay in the continuous action from where Lucy had her baby, you'll find the situation amusing, especially when they try to boost her confidence and she starts singing which of course it is not a confidence boosting moment simply by the reaction they give her. Gerald Moore as the psychiatrist (you'll love Ricky's pronunciation of that word) is delightfully over the top, and Lucy's change of moods throughout the episode shows her range. I wouldn't call this a classic episode but it is a well done one.

Interesting

Interesting premise I probably relate to Lucy especially if you're around people who are more interesting than you. One of the shows I would skip but would go back to if I feel like it.

Creepy psychiatrist

The psychiatrist has some unethical behavior . He wasn't funny even in that yes he's a jerk but kind of funny and an insecure Lucy makes for a weird episode. She also acts kind of dimwitted at times and that's not Lucy. I know that's basically the idea but it doesn't work here . Definitely one of the lesser episodes.

I know they were basically preparing for Lucille Ball to have time off after her pregnancy and this actually created some solid, entertaining episodes especially Lucy Changes her Mind which could be considered a a classic but this episode is one of the weakest episodes of the series and doesn't add up to much.

One to skip

Warning: Spoilers
There are many episodes I have watched countless times . Some I watch less often but still enjoy.

Then there are a handful to skip. This is One of them.

One filmed ahead of Lucille Ball having her second child. In my humble opinion the worst of them.

An unusual episode that has Lucy completely opposite of her usual self. She's depressed and doesn't feel she can do anything right after a series of unfortunate circumstances. Ricky consults a psychiatrist and he turns out to be extremely unethical. Lucy ends up even more depressed. It's up to Ricky , Ethel and Fred and they build up her confidence again. It's not very funny and nothing much happens.
