Ironically it was her bad temper and his drunken and spendthrift ways that got them killed. They were separated and she notices he has a lot of adult toys in his place beyond his official means to afford. That comes to the attention of his employers who fear discovery.
Personally I think that if cooler heads prevailed they would have done nothing.
But then we would have no episode.
