Kind of a strange ending

One thing about "In the Heat of the Night" the show never had a shortage of beautiful women. This episode guest starred the older but still lovely Lois Chiles (The Great Gatsby), sexy Sherilyn Wolter (General Hospital) and of course the show's attractive regulars Anne-Marie Johnson and Denise Nicholas. This episode also was a reunion for "Dallas" cast members Ken Kercheval as the Judge and Larry Hagman who directed this episode. This entry was about the Judge who is running for Congress but he can't control his alcoholic wife. Meanwhile he's having an affair with a sexy councilwoman. Not hard to figure out how this episode will play out. Of course there's gonna be a murder and in the end the scheme becomes unraveled. My problem with this episode is the show ends abruptly with the Judge being arrested. Kind of open ended in my opinion, I guess they ran out of time. Still overall it was pretty good with the usual southern charm and drama.

Typical

This is the prime example of a woman acting like the victim while destroying a man's life. Most men don't try to take revenge ahead of time tho.

Ambitious judge

This In The Heat Of The Night episode casts Ken Kercheval as a local judge planning to run for Congress and looking for support. When we first meet him he's having lunch with Denise Nicholas and Wilbur Fitzgerald trying to gain support.

But what could hold him back is his wife Lois Chiles who is an alcoholic. What we learn during the course of the episode she's got a lot of reason to be drunk and a lot of reason to fear Kercheval.

Chiles is murdered ostensibly during the course of a burglary and then it becomes a matter for law enforcement.

It becomes abundantly clear that Kercheval is not a man we want in public office.

Good performances by the guest stars.
