A bank vault is robbed with no visible means of entry and Ironside and the crew have to figure out the vagaries of who did it and how. While doing so there's an assassination attempt on Ironside and there's a rare scene where he has to get out of his wheelchair. The show rarely shows him getting (or being thrown) out of the wheelchair, which makes it dramatic when he does.
Some fun and interesting things from this episode: James Hong appears very briefly, but seeing or hearing him (a big voice actor) is like being a part of history. Hong is considered the most prolific actor in history! He started acting in 1954 and as of 2022 is still working, appearing in hundreds and hundreds of shows. My favorite? Mulan (the animated film, the true classic). He's probably most famous though for his Seinfeld appearance.
Also appearing is William Daniels, another great and prolific character actor. I loved him in St. Elsewhere.
The Ironside/Star Trek connection is very strong in this one. Daniels voiced a ship (!) in Star Trek: Voyager, Arthur Batanides ("Manny" the cop here) was in Star Trek the original series, and Sandra Smith (the accomplice!) was the infamous Dr. Janice Lester in the original series, the woman who steals Kirk's body!
One other comment from this episode: We all know that Raymond Burr didn't like to do location shooting on Ironside. Who could blame him, he had a ton to do as the main character. Well, in this episode you can see that he also sometimes didn't like to do set-based shooting! About halfway through there's a scene where Ironside is in the bank and Fran comes in and chats with him. You'll notice that the scenes with Fran and Ironside never show Ironsides face, while the close-ups of Ironside talking are indeed Raymond Burr. It's kind of funny because the double is so stiff sitting in the wheelchair making sure the camera can't see his profile, while Burr is so animated when he's talking. No doubt Burr said he was not going to do that scene because he was exhausted doing the scene where he has to escape through a dang tunnel!
