***SPOILERS*** Going down to the "hood" in the Berkley slums former gang banger and now upstanding citizen Mark Stanger, Tom Mitchell, is to see his just released on bail friend Gino Martinez who's got some impotent business to discuss with him. Finding Martinez dead with his skull cracked Stanger is attacked from behind and knocked out cold by an unseen assailant who was obviously Martinez's killer. From the description that Stanger gave of his attacker he most likely turned out to be SFPD police Sargent Al Cervantes. Recordo Montalban. With Sgt. Cervantes swearing he had nothing to do with Martinez's death evidence at the scene and with his alibi of being somewhere else at the time being full of holes time prove otherwise!

With Chief Ironside, Raymond Burr, handling the case he soon finds out that there was another person at the murder scene who can clear the whole thing up. Martinez's girlfriend Rita,Poupee Bolar, who checked out before he was murdered. It wasn't what Rita saw but what she took with her, a file of incriminating documents, that puts her life in danger. And now Ironside and the police have to get to Rita first before those who want to get their hands on the documents get to her first!

****SPOILERS**** As Ironside as we in the audience soon find out is that Gino Martinez was involved as an abortionist in an illegal coast to coast abortion racket. It was one of Gino's victims 18 year old Theresa Ortega that lead to him getting killed. It's now up to Chief Ironside and the SFPD to track down Rita who has the documents that can expose that abortion racket and bring those involved in it to Justice as well as the person who murdered her sleazy and getting everything that he coming to him boyfriend the late Gino Martinez,
