It's back to the type of comedy that John Ritter became famous for as Jack Tripped on "Three's Company" of which Lucy was a big fan of. It's perhaps too early in the series to have such a prestigious guest star on the show as they should have been focusing on character over gimmicks. Ritter visits the hardware store where everybody (including another special guest star Ruth Buzzi) fawns over him and causes him to injure his hands. Lucy and John do have great chemistry so their styles work together even if hers is a bit more dated than his.

You can't help but laugh at a lot of the antics though, and a visual gag concerning Buzzi and a doormat is indeed very funny. Lucy continues her interference by showing up at the rehearsal for Ritter's play at the Pasadena Playhouse (with Greg Mullavey as the director and Sally Kemp as the method actor co-star who quits) opening up the opportunity for scheming Lucy to take over, and for a minute you see Lucy's old Tallulah schtick which is still funny. The focus on Lucy and John takes away from the rest of the regular cast, not a bad thing, but not a good sign for the show's future which has this episode with the onstage antics looking like something that Lucy's ex Desi would have produced for TV 20 years before.
