On With the Show

Part 2 of the mini-Mermathon has Lucy slaving over a sewing machine and feeling bitter about not being cast in the Boy Scouts talent show. Ethel picked the names from a hat and Viv won fair and square. But Lucy's tears do the trick and Merman's guilt lands Lucy a spot in the show.

This is mostly a musical episode where Ralph Hart gets to show off his dancing skills and the grownups do a retrospective on entertainment dating back to the early 1900s. Lucy performs "Glow Worm" on the saxophone and Merman sings "Everything's Coming Up Roses". The best part is the silent movie sketch with Lucy as the wronged wife, Mooney as the philandering husband and Ethel as the other woman.

The script mentions Mooney has a daughter named Rosemary, who is about to give birth in New Jersey. That makes four children that Mooney has fathered, who are either seen or mentioned this season, then totally forgotten.

**Gale Gordon Cartwheel Alert** which will turn up every so often in this series and HERE'S LUCY.
