Magnum in the UK
Deanjam20 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Series 6 starts with a double-length episode filmed in England, with Magnum and Higgins arriving to prepare a castle for a reception thrown by Robin Masters. Whiles in the country, Magnum plans to see his old war buddy, but is shocked to discover he has died. But was it an accident?

This is a Hollywood view of England, with castles, posh folk, and ghosts, but the casting is spot on, with Francesca Annis, Julian Glover, and Peter Davison all featuring in key parts. There's the usual yanks in the UK jokes (driving on the wrong side of the road etc), but the charm of Magnum is the interactions of its characters; and while TC is largely sidelined in Morocco, there's still plenty of interplay between Higgins and Magnum, particularly in relation to Higgins refusal to see his family.

A good opening episode, and nice to see real overseas locations being used.

Magnum's UK opus

Warning: Spoilers
I like it when TV series head off to the UK, and in this season six opener, Magnum, P. I., Higgins and Rick head off to the UK, where Magnum helps solve a murder of an old army friend I think. Here we see the UK in the 80s, and we see a newspaper headline referring to Margaret Thatcher. I was impressed by one scene where Magnum chases after a culprit through the streets of London, and in the background you see the extras watching and so on.

In this episode you see Magnum walking around Harewood Avenue, Marylebone, Central London, NW1. Higgins finally gets the courage to meet his father in England, and John Hillerman is heavily made up to play the father.

One thing, a hotel room in this episode is quite large. In real life, most London hotel rooms are tiny, like doll's houses. I remember visiting London about a decade ago, and the London hotel room was so tiny that my opened suitcase brushed the walls!

Decent UK stars star in Deja Vu. We get Francesca Annis (who later became the partner of Ralph Fiennes). We get Julian Glover who I sometimes get mixed up with Julian "Boxing Helena" Sands. Then of course Peter Davison famous for of course for being a Doctor Who and later starring in A Very Peculiar Practice.
