Two Iconic Guest Stars
CharlieP-515 March 2021
Younger viewers (born after 1970) probably won't appreciate that two film & TV icons were guest stars - June Lockhart and Jose Ferrer. And their 40 years younger selves were played by their daughter and son - Anne Lockhart and Miguel Ferrer. On top of that it had a pretty good plot.

A Magnum episode with a historic twist
DVD_Connoisseur1 October 2018
"Lest We Forget" is an above average episode of "Magnum P.I."

Containing classic Donald P. Bellisario themes, this is a tale of love across the ages.

Notable for the appearance of both a young Miguel Ferrer and his father, José Ferrer, playing the same role.

The beautiful Anne Lockhart plays the young Diane Westmore whilst her mother plays the older, modern day Anne.

Scatman Crothers tickles the ivories.

8 out of 10. Clever and romantic.

Nostalgia, Romance, Action
Miguel Ferrer and Anne Lockhart play young lovers on the eve of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Flash forward to the early 80s and those characters are played by their real-life parents June Lockhart and Jose Ferrer.

Jose did a ton of television work but he was so far above most TV actors it's ridiculous. When his character is a Supreme Court nominee, you believe it. June brings a wonderful dignity and class to her character. You'll want to bring her home to meet your grandkids. Heck, maybe you still could. As of this writing June is still alive and closing in on 98. As for Anne Lockhart, she's stuck with a faux-40s hairdo in this episode but my goodness what is her secret; she gets more remarkably good looking as she gets older. Miguel (RIP) is gone too soon; nobody can ever forget his performance in RoboCop.

There's a blackmail plot but that's a bit of a Macguffin. What's really magical here is the romance angle between people separated by nearly a half-century.

There are plenty of twists but none so crazy that a viewer can't keep up.

There's a very amusing secondary plot involving Higgins and his Thursday afternoon bridge game.

If that weren't enough, the piano player (in sort of a nod to Casablanca) is Scatman Crothers. And the beauty of the week was Miss Hawaii 1978, Elizabeth Lindsey. Rrrrooowwrrrr...

And if THAT weren't enough, we get a cool little recreation of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Since there was no CGI garbage back then, those have to be actual planes flying around. I don't know where they got that footage (Midway, maybe?) but it's pretty cool.

This is a nearly flawless early Magnum P. I. episode.

A Well-Rounded, Satisfying Magnum Episode
vortexpilot12 March 2023
"Lest We Forget" is a cracking good episode from Season 1 of "Magnum P. I." The action is enlivened with WWII flashbacks and an inscrutable, slowly unraveling mystery, along with romance and humor, as Magnum searches for a woman and the truth shrouded in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack of 1941. In a clever as well as charming nod to realism the cast features two sets of actors and their real life offspring playing their younger selves. There's even a brief homage to "Casablanca" for good measure. And unnervingly the episode shows Higgins and the dogs being nice to Magnum for a change.

Amazing casting

Warning: Spoilers
Quite amazing this episode because you had June Lockhart a character in the present day (1981) and her daughter Anne Lockhart played June's character as a youngster in 1941. Then you have Jose Ferrer playing a character in the present day (1981) and his son Miguel Ferrer playing Jose's character as a youngster in 1941.

Also the legendary Scatman Crothers plays a piano player in a bar. I wonder if he is really playing the piano, but still.

Anyway, I loved the beach scenes in all its sunny glory for sure. That's the Magnum I like and I have no desire to see the reboot with due respect to the reboot cast.

A Nominated Supreme Court Justice Seeks His Prostitute Bride from Pearl Harbor 1941
charlayned22 January 2007
Judge Robert Caine (Jose Ferrer) seeks his long lost wife Diane Westmore Pauley who he lost when Pearl Harbor was bombed. She's hiding a great secret that she wants to keep buried and she believes her "Bobby" was killed on the Arizona. Everyone Magnum asks about the picture of Diane from those days says they don't remember her but Magnum believes they are lying to him.

Footage of the bombing of Pearl Harbor appears to be from the moving "Tora, Tora, Tora".

To complicate matters, someone is willing to run Magnum off the road (and busting up Robin's Ferrari again in the process) and Higgins has roped him into a bridge game.
