Rhoda Strikes Paydirt--Sort Of
Hitchcoc9 February 2017
Phyllis's brother has come to visit and she immediately begins to try to get him hooked up with Mary. She leaves them alone and soon Rhoda turns up. They hit it off immediately. They go to a concert for which Phyllis has provided tickets. They end up sitting by Phyllis and Lars and soon Phyllis begins to think the worst--that they may be having a serious relationship. This turn of events is followed by one of Mary's parties. They are known for their disastrous results. Everyone seems to be having a decent time until Phyllis comes in and destroys the mood. When her brother and Rhoda show up, it's lights out. Soon all the guests are gone. But there is an interesting twist at the conclusion.

Great ending punchline
VetteRanger24 April 2023
Phyllis' brother comes for a visit from New York. A musician and songwriter, Phyllis is keen to fix him up with Mary, hopefully for a long-term relationship.

However, while he's talking to Mary, Rhoda shows up and she and the brother hit it off quickly, shortly leaving for a concert together.

Cloris Leachman gives one of her better performances in the series as she describes her disgust that her brother is hanging out with Rhoda. It's laugh-out-loud funny. We get a second visit from Georgette at Mary's party, which Phyllis promptly torpedoes with her bad attitude.

Then, at the very end, comes a punchline that you'll get another audible laugh from. Funny episode.

Pacey and funny

Fun and pacey episode full of laughs and no dull spots at all. Easily one of the best non-newsroom oriented episodes.

Pushy Phyllis matches Mary with her visiting brother, but he clicks with Rhoda instead. Great moments from Mary, Rhoda and Phyllis in main roles and great support from the newsroom regulars and a returning Georgette at Mary's party.

Everything falls into place neatly in this one.
