When Mary went to jail for not revealing her sources, there was a hooker in the same cell. In this episode this person shows up looking for someone to vouch for her at a court date. Mary takes it upon herself to rehabilitate her. She tries everything, but the woman is resistant to anything. She only knows one profession and is unwilling to take a shot at another. Pretty tame until Ted and Georgette show up at Mary's home. This woman always wanted to be a dress designer and Mary has tried on one of her creations. The scene with Ted is absolutely hilarious. I won't go into details. Also, Mary looks great in the dress.

Mary shows some skin

Mary is re-acquainted with a hooker she met in jail (in first episode of this season) and encourages her to pursue her dream of being a dress designer. Sherry designs a dress for Mary and brings it over for her to try on. It's basically an evening gown that is split twice down the front of it from just under the bust to the ankles, exposing some fabulous Mary Tyler Moore flesh. Ted Baxter usually doesn't make me laugh, but his reaction to Mary in the gown is great.
Episode also includes a line from Mary I remembered for 34 years even though I haven't seen this episode since it originally ran circa 1975. Mary is teasing Mr. Grant about his concern that she might pick up bad habits from being friends with a hooker. She tells him she went down to the "docks" and wrote her name and number in a phone booth. "For a hot time, call Mary. Thirty million Frenchmen can't be wrong."

Mary receives a visit from the prostitute Sherry (Barbara Colby) she met in jail, who now wants to go straight. Mary encourages Sherry in her ambition to become a dress designer.
Colby is fantastic and the main set-piece of Mary in a gaudy and revealing dress designed by Sherry is great.
Barbara Colby went on to play the regular role of Phyllis Lindstrom's employer and confidant in the spin-off Phyllis but was killed in a drive-by shooting after filming just three episodes.
