It's a shotgun wedding.

A salty woman of the Pacific, Kate O'Hara, has to land on the base due to aircraft problems. Kate is one of those women that opens a bar in nearly every port with the idea of taking as much money from the visitors as possible. This may be the reason that she is an old acquaintance of McHale.

Kate land on the base and is a headache to Binghamton. But when he receives word that the Navy is passing a new officer's mandate he becomes a match-maker. The new directive states that any officer that has 24 months and is married will be transferred to the States. This means if Binghamton can get McHale and Kate to marry he will finally be done with McHale. It's going to be a kind of shotgun wedding if Binghamton has his way.

Even with Binghamton walking around with a pistol, the show did turn out to be enjoyable enough to make for an above average watch. The script brought a head-strong female into the cast which is something that the series lacks. Even with a concept that is old and outdated, it did provide laughs which always make the day brighter.
