Patty reads a letter from Cathy who is spending time with her father in Paris. She sends Patty an original Paris dress. Patty talks her friends into having a formal dinner party as an excuse to wear her dress. She excitedly works over the details for it to be held at her house. Meanwhile, Uncle Jed (also played by William Schallert) has dropped in for a surprise stay with the family. Patty is afraid he will interfere with her dinner party. Martin tries to have his uncle visit some other family for the evening. But, when Uncle Jed learns of the party he insists on playing his banjo as entertainment. When the power goes out during preparations for the party, Uncle Jed may show how valuable he can be.
