SO WHODUNIT TO THE DJ'S LADY?
tcchelsey16 March 2023
Being an old DJ myself, I was drawn to this episode, particularly with Bob Crane as the guest star. Actually, Crane was a DJ long before his tv career, and was top man at KNX in Los Angeles, so much so that when he left the station to begin work on HOGAN'S HEROES, the ratings dropped significantly.

Here, he plays a radio talk show host whose wife is murdered, and Crane is the prime suspect as he was well aware of the affair. Pepper, of course, falls in love with his voice, a listener to his show, and is trailing a list of suspects, including drinking a few cocktails with a guy who wants to give her a tour of his bedroom? You can tell that Bob is having fun being on the air after all those years, and has some good scenes with Angie Dickinson. He also guested on the short-lived cop show TENAFLY before this appearance. Look for the great Della Reese here, not only a fine actress, but a terrific singer in her own right. This episode also features a neat boat chase at the LA Harbor, very well done. Robert Collins, who developed the series, also had a hand in writing this story. A few years later would write the super tv bio of Huey Long, THE LIFE AND ASSASINATION OF THE KING FISH, starring Ed Asner. From SEASON 1 and on dvd.
