Last of nine straight for Grady subbing for Fred
kevinolzak3 December 2016
"A Little Extra Security" marked the last of nine consecutive episodes in which Grady fills in for the absent Fred, the third this fourth season ("The Surprise Party" welcomed Fred back from St. Louis). Grady awaits his monthly social security check of $255, stunned to receive a second check for the same amount. Despite Lamont's warnings he's determined to cash them both, then disappears for 24 hours. A night on the town with Otis Littlejohn (Stymie Beard, last of three appearances) became an evening of dinner and a show in Las Vegas, finishing up with a little gambling so that very little is left of his financial windfall. An unexpected visitor arrives from the government, making Grady sweat bullets until he learns the reason behind it. Interesting that the ratings never faltered with Whitman Mayo in place of Redd Foxx, one of the reasons why the star would be back after a nine episode strike.
