Soap operas can be filthy
kevinolzak6 December 2016
"The Headache" opens with Lamont nursing a serious headache while his father is detailing the latest events on DEATH VALLEY HOSPITAL: "I don't know why they call these soap operas, cause they're filthy!" A pediatrician (Darrell Zwerling) arrives from the bowling alley expecting to find a 2 year old, handing Fred his bowling ball: "wow, lucky you don't have to take two of these!" The opinion that the problem may not be physical prompts a series of sessions with a psychologist (Robert DoQui), who naturally concludes that Lamont hates his father, accompanied by a blast of soap opera music! The exaggeration of love has Fred thinking that his son was 'hit by a sugar truck!' Of course, the mere mention of what the doctor said gives Lamont a headache! The daytime serial motif lasts through the end credits, Sanford and Son bantering back and forth until the music fades.
