"Watts Side Story" opens with Julio borrowing the Sanford truck so that he can bring in his visiting mother Providencia (Alma Beltran, later seen in "Fuentes, Fuentes, Sanford & Chico") and sister Maria (Migdia Varela, never seen again) to meet his neighbors. Fred hopes to deter them from staying permanently by discussing the smog and earthquakes: "out here a building will fall on you, and your last breath won't even be a good one!" Incredibly, both parents share the same prejudice when Lamont goes out on a date with Maria at a Chinese restaurant, the one thing they find they have in common. Fred's pool hall entourage of Slick Skillet and Lucky Leroy (Ernest Mayhand and Leroy Daniels, second of five) find him spending time with Providencia and assume they are the ones on a date. Fred figures he may as well stick around and eat, requesting separate checks!
