"Looniversity Daze" did have potential to be better than it was. The premise is cool, feel the same about this as a young adult as did a child, it is always great when any episode mirrors classic Looney Tunes and a few of 'Tiny Toon Adventures' best and most interesting characters are heavily focused on. Namely Buster and Plucky, and how great was it to see regular Bugs Bunny opponent Yosemite Sam in "The Learning Principal" segment.
'Tiny Toon Adventures' were on the most part very successful when it came to its numerous episodes structured as 2-4 segments. Though inevitably some were better than others. "Looniversity Daze" is mostly successful, but it has always struck as slightly uneven. Never terrible, while not being exceptional either. While liking two of the segments very much, there was almost always one segment for each segment-structured episode that didn't quite come off and "Looniversity Daze" is another example of this.
"Eating Between the Lines" didn't quite do it for me. It's cute and amusing enough, but also a bit too thin and could have done with more energy and variety. Sweetie is fun enough but Bookworm doesn't engage enough here.
Buster and Babs are always a pleasure and have always adored their chemistry. There are a lot better representations of both characters and their chemistry in other episodes here than in "Looniversity Daze's" wraparound story however, the Acme Looniversity songs didn't add a lot and were only pleasant at best.
It is fortunate though that the other segments fare better. "The Learning Principal" really benefits from Buster's presence and its wit, and seeing Yosemite Sam anywhere is always a pleasure. "What's Up, Nurse?" may not be one of the finer representations of Plucky, but it showcases him more than amusingly in a situation that is fun and rootable while the writers definitely had fun with Elmyra in this segment.
Animation is bright and meticulous as always and the music is full of energetic character and beautiful and clever orchestration. The theme song will never get old in my mind. The wit and wackiness is present for most of the episode, especially in "What's Up, Nurse?" It was great to see so many throwbacks to, and mirroring of, the classic Looney Tunes cartoons and their characters (namely seeing Yosemite Sam and the play on of What's Up Doc). Most of the characters are on great form, especially Plucky, and the voice acting is without complaint.
To summarise, good episode but not a great one (and it actually could easily have been). 7/10
