A crisis of conscience...and some jerky Germans.
planktonrules31 October 2021
Something unusual happens, a strange assemblage of German planes* attacks the bomber base while the B-17s are out of a bombing run. During this attack, the chaplain is nearly killed and loses his cool. When one of the German planes is shot down, he grabs a rifle and shoots one of the parachuting Germans! This is certainly not chaplain-like behavior!! In addition, the surviving German trio from the plane are real jerks...and soon plan on a campaign of sabotage and murder.

This episode sure could have been better. For the Germans to escape and cause the mayhem they did, the American airmen sure had to be stupid. For example, when they were attacked by the escaped Germans, they NEVER yelled out for help! They also made it VERY easy for these saboteurs in many other ways. As a result, I thought it was a very weak installment of "12 O'Clock High".

*A quibble I have with many episodes is that whoever inserted the stock footage into the episodes often did it haphazardly. Here, the German bomber group is a motley assemblage....an unlikely group of He-111, Ju-88, Ju-87, Me-110 and Me-210 planes. Also near the end, the P-51 Mustang is shot down by another American fighter, the P-47! Talk about sloppy!
