Tiffany is in charge of the dance, but no way the Queen of Ice-Cool is going to do menial tasks like making paper flowers and baking cookies and blowing up balloons, she'd get underlings to do that. She invests the dance money into war stocks, only then, a pacifist mood sweeps the world, on TV we hear the IRA apologizing. Chaperone Jennie has never been to the Prom, she has to fix things. Ryan's plan for the dance: Ask twenty girls. But let little Ross do the dirty work. Risky business, but Ross has a crash helmet. In a crunch, visor down, and he shields his crotch. Did this last year and learned painful lesson...
It struck me that a whole lot of this episode, especially towards the conclusion, relied on Geoff Pierson (Jack) and Stephanie Hodge (Jennie) and while Geoff can do the deadpan looks needed in many scenes with Mr. Floppy, at times in the series he is just there... Both he and Stephanie are no match for the comedy duo Ed O'Neill and Katey Sagal in MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, and in this episode, unfortunately, that is very evident. Ultimately, I suppose that counted heavily against this series, even though there were 100 episodes. In a nutshell though, when it is up to those two, one longs for Mr. Floppy or Nikki Cox as Tiffany. MANY hot-blooded guys watched ONLY for Nikki Cox, and they were, of course, the types who had NO truck for "the puppet" and "the two old geezers" and "the way old auntie" and it figures why the show must have had a relatively limited appeal. But it did last a full five seasons, I suppose because its fans, the fans that it did have, were totally devoted. A cult favorite, this show!
Anyway, despite obvious flaws, room for improvement, it remains way better than the average churned-out cookie cutter stuff. I watched very few sit-coms, but always made an effort to see MARRIED WITH CHILDREN and UNHAPPILY EVER AFTER.
If you can get to see it, and is uncertain, just know, if off- beat comedy is for you (chances are then that you'd know about MARRIED WITH CHILDREN), you can't go wrong with this one, by the late, great Ron Leavitt as well.
