Victoria's friend Jane (Deborah Grant) has dragged her to the most prestigious Christmas party in London hosted by Moira (Patricia Hodge.)
Only to find out that Moira and the other guests are overbearing ignorant posh types.
Victoria and other celebrities such as Alan the writer (Jim Broadbent) Jim the miner turned painter and Kevin the popstar are only there to do a turn. Perform for the guests unwillingly as they were invited as guests in the first place.
During the course of the ghastly party. Victoria learns that she was only brought in by Jane as Moira desperately needed a comedian. Jane had a business proposal for Moira's husband. Only to learn that Moira and her husband are due to seperate.
I do wonder if the society Christmas party was based on the ones writer Jeffrey Archer used to throw. Before he was slung into jail!
The best performance was from Jim Broadbent, the caricature of the passionate northern working class writer who lives in Chiswick.
This was a decent episode in what was a bit of an uneven series. Victoria did not reach the heights of Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV because of the anthology format. There was no second series.
