It seems that the Republic and Florida both managed to collide at night and the passengers might have all died had it not been for the recent invention, the wireless. The film then talks about Marconi's invention as well the public's reaction to the wireless operator, Jack Binns, following the rescue. Overall, an unusual piece of history that mostly has been forgotten. Well made and never dull.
