Dangerous, Julie and Mod too
safenoe18 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Criminal supremo Jimmy Vincent, who was released from prison, is found dead in his house pool days after his release. Coincidentally, on the same day he was released, armed gangsters rob diamonds, using the same method of operation of Jimmy's previous exploits.

Interestingly, DI Aspinall has some sort of respect for Jimmy, and he's quick to get Dangerous and Co to investigate the murder. Jimmy must have been very, very wealthy because in the UK (where The Last Detective is set), many families cannot afford a backyard pool, let alone an indoor pool. You have to have lots of lolly if you know what I mean.

Dangerous is rebuilding his relationship with Julie, with Dangerous now back with Julie. Mod (Sean Hughes), Dangerous's sidekick and former flatmate, has also moved in, but Julie's had enough of his fingernail clippings lying around, so Mod has to leave. I assume there's no racial motivation (Mod is Irish), and tragically, a gangster beats up Mod at his bedsit, thinking he was a grass. Anyway, Dangerous and Julie rescue Mod from the hospital, and take him back in.

After this there are only four more episodes of The Last Detective, which is a fine police drama from the UK, and it's a shame it didn't go for more than four seasons.

Keep it in the family
ygwerin11 April 2024
Notorious crime boss Jimmy 'The Gent' Vincent, ends his term in stir and after his release, an 'Audacious' diamond robbery is committed, and the guilty gang use the self same M. O. as The Gent.

Coincidence or not the instances continue to pile up, with an autobiography in the hands of the publishers, and the body of Jimmy the Gent is found in his pool.

Will the extended family of thieves fall out, when the Willsden old bill commences to interrogate them individually, or will they continue to remain as thick as thieves?

Mod Lewis is mistaken for Dangerous Davis's underworld informant and duffed up.

Losing the gloss
xmasdaybaby196624 February 2021
We are binge-watching the series and gave enjoyed it until now. This series was screened 2 years later and the production is disappointing. I am no expert on film making so don't really have the knowledge to explain other than to say previously the screen was clear like gloss paint and you felt part of the show but now the picture is dull and distant, matt-like, detracting the viewer and giving the show a darker feel. The storyline is fine but the show seems distant. I have seen a few shows itv made at the time and they had the same feel too. No wonder this is the final series

Once Upon a Time on the Westway

Warning: Spoilers
Jimmy Vincent is an old time crook known as Gentleman Jimmy.

He has been released from jail after some years banged up. On the same day there is a diamond heist which had the same MO as Jimmy's.

The police suspect Jimmy and his gang but he later turns up dead.

Dangerous Davies has to find Jimmy's killer and maybe even the diamonds. A book that Jimmy planned to write might have been the cause of his death.

A great cast in this one. Anthony Valentine, Roger Daltrey, Jason Watkins, John Shrapnel. An early role for O-T Fagbenle who has done well in the USA.

Dangerous seems to find leads through careful observation for both the robbery and the murder. He also seems to be getting more respect from his colleagues. Even his wife torelates him.

Things are looking up for Dangerous. The same cannot be said about Mod, he ends up in hospital after a beating.
