THE PHONE IS RIIINGIIIIIIING
This show is dumb, but as a child, I was entertained. As a high schooler, I can honestly say that it is a rare occurrence that a phone rings in a classroom and no-one screeches "the phone- the phone is ringing." This show has ultimately become an obscure meme and one of the better shows you can put on for your idiot child.

Finally, a preschool show that doesn't grate on my nerves!
lovelyaudrey827 October 2006
Ah, the Wonder Pets.

As a full-time nanny and former preschool teacher, I live in a world of Doodlebops, Wiggles, and perhaps most annoying, Barney. With the recent onslaught of painful preschool educational programming, I have found myself wondering if there are any shows left that can hold my charge's attention without driving me bonkers.

Luckily, the Wonder Pets have sailed into Nick Jr. to save the day. Here is a show that teaches valuable lessons about teamwork, sharing, the importance of asking for help, potty training, problem solving... and of course, friendship. My charge is just turning two, and she absolutely adores it. More importantly, she seems to understand the messages. Just the other day we were discussing what teamwork means, and later were picking up towels. As she picked towels up off of the floor, she exclaimed, "It's teamwork!" The songs are really well written, with music that is often very specific to the area they are visiting. I also love how the classroom is always decorated with whatever the episode's theme is. The kids who do the voices are so adorable, you can't help but smile whenever they talk or sing.

Best of all, the kid and I can snuggle on the couch and laugh our heads off together. It's nice to watch something we can both enjoy and bond over, instead of her watching something I am trying to tune out with a magazine.

Goooooooo, Wonder Pets! Yay!

We love this! I'm 43, and I watch this with my 4 yr old son

Warning: Spoilers
Before you turn away thinking I'm a total loon, I must qualify that I am a high school Honors Science teacher, and I have taught everything from PreAP Biology to AP Physics, and everything in between for almost 20 years now. I believe that parents need to watch TV with their kids anyway, to make sure the kids do not watch too much TV, and to make sure that what they watch is appropriate for them. Truly, I have come to the conclusion that "grown-up TV" is just no fun anymore. Up to last year, I was a "CSI" and "West Wing" junkie.....ah well....

Now, as for the Wonder Pets:This show is a real breath of fresh air. The show is hard to describe, except to say that every episode is operatic, humorous, and just a little nuts. First of all, this show is completely absurd. Joyfully, beautifully, (perhaps dementedly?) absurd. But it is so cool, and very funny! The Wonder Pets are Lenny, Tuck and Ming-Ming, a guinea pig, a turtle and a duckling, respectively. They lead a double life as classroom pets in an elementary school classroom during the day, but as intrepid animal rescue experts after hours. Every episode has dialogue spoken and sung, just like a middle school operetta, with repeated choruses of what the story and the characters are all about ("What's gonna work? TEAMWORK!") backed up by fully orchestrated music that sounds actually similar to say, a Wagner opera....yes, I did say Wagner. You just have to see it to understand. In fact, make sure you watch at least two full 1/2 hour episodes, because the first time you see this, it will leave you confused. But after you get it, you will, well,.... you'll GET IT! To quote Ming-Ming "This is SEWIOUS!" (Yes, the duckling's trademark line is delivered every episode like an infant Elmer Fudd, but it is just too funny to describe here). The messages of teamwork and looking out for the good of others is presented brilliantly here, not in any form of a preachy way, but in an enthusiastic, comical manner that young children can understand. Unlike other shows about social interaction, this show does not use the worn out technique of making a character do the right thing by making them feel guilty about having done the wrong thing to begin with (for all its good intentions I just can't stand "Franklin"). The Wonder Pets show that they are their brother's keeper in a proactive way. (Hey, that's pretty ironic, their brother's keeper, and they all live in cages in a schoolroom.....but I digress) Well, what can I tell you except that my favorite character is without a doubt Ming-Ming. Don't take my word, see this new gem for yourself. I hope it becomes a long term successful show like it's problem-solving predecessors "Blue's Clues" and "Dora the Explorer" One last word: Ming-Ming RULES! This is SEWIOUS!

Not good for children who just started speaking or young ones who have only been speaking a short while.

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this show when me and my 3 year old started watching it. Then I noticed the little duck says her r's wrong. I thought well thats OK. What child is going to pay attention to that. Well 2 weeks after watching this program about everyday, my 3 year old started speaking like that. Saying his r's just like the little duck. Well I immediately blocked that show from out list. I have found its hard to break habits, and I do not this to go any farther. I think if you are going to make a children's show it should be to help them not hinder them. Other than the speech problem this is a great show for children. We love the songs and singing along with them. I like the lesson about team Work. Thank you for your time.

Very entertaining
mellynpar24 May 2006
I too watch this with my 4 year old. We have fun singing together. The tunes are very catchy. It also teaches to help each other & teamwork. There is also an episode that teaches sharing which most children this age need. There are many times he is humming or singing the theme song when he's playing. He loves this & so will your child. They even give your child some time to think about what they should do... kind of like Dora & Blue's Clues. He doesn't mind watching the episodes over and over. He has almost all of them memorized & they just started!!! I do hope they come up with new episodes & continue being a hit. Like one other review, they teach you to do the right thing first instead of doing the wrong thing and fixing it. This is a quality show to let them watch! It tends to catch my 9 month old's attention too!

No thanks.

They choose cute over substance.

Other than little animals this show has nothing going for it.

Some like it because of the cuteness. That's all. Other than that what's to like? Ignorance? Being naive?

Really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational show
Catherine_Grace_Zeh24 September 2006
Wow! This is a really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational show. I said that because I watch this on Nickelodeon and Noggin with my 20-month-old nephew from time to time. It's hard to say which show on Nickelodeon and Noggin is the best. If I had to pick, this would definitely be one of the cutest. Still it's really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that the people at Nickelodeon and Noggin really know how to reach a toddler's developing mind. Now, in conclusion, if you have children, nieces, or nephews, I strongly recommend this really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational show. I guarantee you that they will enjoy it.

Wonder Pets, Too cool for school
kibblesthepig22 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
So the other morning I stumbled on the greatest kids show ever! Well, at least since Muppet Babies was taken off the air. Total, utter insanity titled... Wonder Pets. Now, I love guinea pigs, I have one tattooed on my arm, have 4 of my own, well, the leader of the wonder pets is none other than a Guinea Pig named Linny. Linny who sports a little baseball hat and cape hangs with a turtle who wears a Mary Tyler Moore style hat and water shoes named Tuck, and a stupid duck who can't pronounce her R's named Ming Ming and save baby animals and the occasional tree using repetitive songs and teamwork. The first time I stumbled on this mini opera masterpiece the wonder pets taught a baby swan how to dance,(why oh why did a swan need to dance?) and then rescued a puppy by letting him out the doggy door and singing a song about "Pee pee, wee wee and tinkle". Other adventures included saving a baby chimp from space, a cow stuck in a tree after a twister hit and Stegasaurus in a book (what are they Gumby now?) caught in a rock cave. It's cute, they teach kids little facts on each adventure, like when they went to Venice to save a cat in the canal, or that elephants live in Africa. And getting back to the repetitive songs (and kids freaking LOVE music no matter how lame the lyrics), sadly the other day at work I found myself humming their "What's gonna work? TEAMWORK" song, although their "The phone, the phone is ringing" opener tune is quite catchy also. Oh and the animation(?) is awesome. Its like a real picture turned into a cartoon or something. It just looks so cool, especially compared to the ugly animation of some kids shows (Dora I'm talking to you big head). Anyway so if you have preschool kids (it teaches that teamwork is where its at, that turtles like hugs, and while Guinea pigs, dolphins and skunks can talk, dogs cannot), or if you're a 22 yr old with an odd sense of humor (who doesn't even have kids and can quote Nightmare on Elm Street movies) this show is a MUST SEE. It's just too nutty and adorable to pass up. I can't wait for this thing to take off and crush that fat loser Dora...Goooo Wonder Pets!

Best kid show since Blues Clues
mister_beller29 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
(Note: This is NOT my review, but rather my younger brother's, because he had wanted to say something about "The Wonder Pets!" However, even if it's not my review, I generally agree with what he's saying.)

To start off, I was watching T.V one day, and I accidentally turned to Nick Jr. I was about to flip back, but the show I saw amazed me! It was..."The Wonder Pets!" I like the way they do the same thing each time, but they twist it up a bit. Their traditional celery-eating after they save an animal always changes. They have them freeze-dried, they put soy sauce on them, they have celery pizza, they barbecue them--they even have dino celery at one time! Also, Ming-Ming's trademark "this is sewious" is funny every time, no matter what.

My baby brother loves this show. And, it is one of the VERY, VERY few kid shows I can watch. For starters, I don't have to listen to Dora's "Do YOU see my hand?". Also, a lot of animation on kids' shows is annoying. But some of the most annoying things about these kinds of shows, however, were the idiotic inconsistencies. For example, in one episode of "Go, Diego, Go!" our title character was on a bridge, and while the bridge was moving back and forth with Diego struggling to balance himself, out of nowhere, he stops moving, turns his head, and asks, "Do YOU know how to stop the bridge?".Also, those kinds of shows don't last as long in kids. Dora asked my little (not baby) brother "Do YOU see the tree?", and he shouted, "Its right there, you idiot!". I cracked up. Unlike Dora, Wonder Pets will actually stay likable.

Their animation is very unique. Indescribable. Also, they teach great lessons. Yes, their main one is teamwork, but they teach different ones on other episodes. Also, I like the way a lot of times they have a trouble putting together their fly boat, or as Ming-ming would say, 'Fry Boat',they solve the problem by using teamwork, and a lot of times, they use that to save the animal (or tree) in need. I won't say anymore. Just see this show for yourself!

I loved it. It was my childhood. And yes I did say was. Because I realized that the pattern of every episode is the same. But I loved this show. It's so good. I recommend watching of you have a child.

This was the best preschool show
therealgoodwillgamer20 January 2021
When I was younger, I was picky about what I liked, in not just food, but entertainment, and I only watched 3 shows, blues clues, Dora, and wonder pets, and I can whole heartedly tell you that this show both was the least patronizing, it was entertaining, and the animals not just being fully animated and using actual animals blew my mind, and this show holds up to this day!

Wonder Pets, Wonder Pets, We're On Our Way
zsofikam10 April 2017
The Wonder Pets consist of Linny, Tuck, and Ming-Ming, a guinea pig, turtle, and duckling respectively, who lead a double life as classroom pets and animal rescuers after school gets out. I have to disagree with the negative reviewers who's main criticisms seem to be that it's not educational and Ming-Ming's speech impediment. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've had to defend a children's show and I doubt it will be the last. With regards to the second complaint, Ming-Ming talks like that not because it's supposed to be "cute" but because the voice actress has a speech impediment. Besides, many preschoolers don't speak properly so it's relatable to them. Also, what exactly do you mean when you say "educational", because it depends on if you mean academically educational (letters, shapes, etc) or morally educational (things like friendship). If you mean the former, TV doesn't have to be a learning experience. If a show is educational that's nice but I seriously doubt that the inventors of television held a convention and said "and it must be educational". Also, I'd argue that it is educational in that sense because it teaches about various animals. If you mean the latter, then I'd say it certainly is. It discusses teamwork, sharing, problem solving, looking out for each other, and the importance of asking for help (there's even an episode about potty-training). Plus, how can you resist this show? The Wonder Pets themselves are so cute and adorable and the animals they help are also very sweet. I also really enjoy the songs like "what's gonna work, teamwork", which kind of reminds me of Bob the Builder (in a good way). Unlike some people, I also like the way Ming-Ming says "this is sewious". One of the greatest kiddie shows out there and one that everyone should see at some point. Even a friend of mine, who's my age, likes it and sometimes we even watch it together.

wonderful show for kids that won't drive adults crazy
panicatthewisco26 October 2007
last year when this show aired i was taking care of my little brother at home. dora makes me want to hang myself, blues clues is bearable but only because joe's adorable, and the koala brothers is as annoying as a show can get.watching these shows i managed to find a little diamond in the rough. the wonder pets is an adorable kids show that doesn't try too hard to appeal to children by dumbing itself down (well, not anymore than it has to be for young children.) it manages to teach a moral each episode, usually two (doing it your own way, etc.) aside from teamwork. it doesn't just focus on things being shown then the child repeating the answer (dora, blues clues, diego) but installs morals and values which most shows fail to teach today, and by showing the kids instead of telling them. my brother is autistic and this is the only show he'll watch, and i'm happy to watch it with him. its adorable and ming ming is the cutest and most humorous character on a kids show i have ever seen. go wonder pets!

What's gonna work?
drmetal827 October 2008
Teamwork! The Wonder Pets is by far the cutest show on TV. I love to watch this show with my 20 month old daughter. She sits there spellbound as I sing along with the songs. They get a little repetitive sometimes, but they are fun to sing along to. I love that this show is always positive, and never puts the characters in peril. The characters are all elementary school classroom pets. The voice actors are extremely talented and I often wonder how old they really are. I know a 5 year old who has the exact same voice of Ming Ming, so it cracks me up. This show is great fun for kids and their parents. I highly recommend it if you have a toddler who is just learning to talk.

People can be short-sighted
mike883927 February 2007
What's a bigger problem? A kid speaking and saying W instead of R or teaching that acceptance is important and that kids can be exceptional even if they're different? I'd never ever ever take the Wonder Pets off my kids viewing list. It's the best show out there..

Learning about sharing and teamwork is very important for kids of any age. The episode about potty-training (Save the Puppy!) is my favorite.. I also enjoyed the recent episode featuring the Three Little Pigs.

Linny, Tuck, and Ming-ming too! We're Wonder Pets and we'll help you! What's gonna work? Teamwork! What's gonna work? Teamwork!

Excellent Children's Program
jlnajera10 December 2008
I was watching TV with my niece when this program came on Noggin. I have watched more episodes since, and I have to say, this is one of my favorite children's programs ever.

In a cartoon world full of out-of-control, spit-nonsense, ADHD cartoon characters who talk fast and make zany gestures, but contain no substance...this cartoon is a breath of fresh air. It contains great music (Little Einsteins doesn't have anything when it comes to this show!), and a spirited message of teamwork.

It moves slow enough to keep young kids in the loop, and fast enough to keep adults entertained. Finally, a kid's show I can watch with my niece and not groan when it comes on (i.e. Barney, who has used the same songs since I was young enough to watch it some 17 years ago...)

an incredible show for kids!!!
feather8024 October 2006
I am a nanny for a 4 year old and 1 year old. This is one of the best shows for kids out there that I've found. We don't watch much TV, but this show not only teaches the children about teamwork and problem solving, but it introduces them to all kinds of music and ethnic cultures! It then introduces them to other animals and what they're called as babies. Even the one year old I watch can sing the theme song, and we say "This is Sewious" all the time in my house. I even have my husband singing it! This show is amazing!! I only hope it's still around or available when I have kids of my own someday! Go Wonder Pets YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

Great show!
kmurray2304 December 2006
It's been years since I've watched Nick Jr or any of the PBS morning shows...my youngest is now 13 and it's been a long while since Rugrats or Barney held his attention! But last week I was holding my new granddaughter (Ruby) and flipping through the channels (she's only 8 weeks old but I was curious about how children's television might have changed). I tried watching Sesame Street but found that what my daughter and son-in-law said is true...it's really gone downhill. I checked out Nick Jr and discovered Wonder Pets--and what a surprise! The animation is great, the message is solid, the learning is offered in a fun, heart-filled way, and the music is terrific! I saw one NYTimes article that said the music for Wonder Pets is recorded with a live orchestra, so you don't get that canned, tinny condescending sound so many children's shows have. Congratulations to the makers of Wonder Pets. This is a fine work. I hope you're around for a long time!

This show is amazing for little kids
jeremiahtubegamer17 January 2022
Now back in the day, they had lots of shows back in my time, Dora the explorer, Blues Clues, the Backyardigans, Team Umizoomi, and a bunch of other I don't need to mention. But when I saw Wonder Pets! I really liked it, the animation with using real picture of animals is genius, the storyline is very epic! Even though I'm not really a musical kinda guy, this is one of the most best shows I have watch. Why did they take it off air? It's really decent, and can teach kids on how team work works, and very educational for kids. I recommend you let your kids to watch this.

Aww, the wonder pets
truly_livin-jesus19 January 2007
I have a 9 month old niece, who I babysit every day. With the wonder pets I know she is being entertained and at the same time she is learning. Every day I turn the TV on to Nick Jr. at 11 and when she hears "Wonder Pets, wonder pets, you found a way, to save a friend and save the day!" She starts waving her hands in excitement! I'd rather her first word be "teamwork" than something else! We tried watching sponge-bob(cringe) and she started to cry. Wonder Pets is a show that we can watch together. Its about time there was an educational program is on! Also when Linny, Tuck, and Ming Ming too, start sing my niece will actually start bouncing as if she is dancing...she only does it to their songs, its adorable. And I know that there wont be any surprise words or actions, which is very comforting.
