Usual Transformers brilliance

Warning: Spoilers
This one has a usual Megatron looking for a power source story but in doing so he discovers a lot more than an energy source! Introducing a new character named Skyfire, oddly the toy was called Jetfire, whom Megatron unearths, gives a delicious look into the Transformers past,to a time when there no factions between robots and Starscream was friends with Skyfire. Without giving too much of the story away, this is a good story of just how different Autobots are from Decepticons. It's a definite highlight in season one. Continued nicely in Fire On The Mountain. Skyfire is a nice addition to the usually road bound Autobot factions

More or less meets the eye

"Fire in the Sky" has an interesting premise, but the episode lacks the ambition to take full advantage of it. I don't suppose that comes as much of a surprise, as "Transformers" isn't remembered for its grand storytelling. What it is remembered for is its robot fisticuffs, which we do get here, but apart from a brief one on one between Optimus and Megatron, it's all pretty bland. And then the end--which I won't spoil here-- left me shaking my head and saying "Wait. What?".

In some ways "Fire in the Sky" is the worst kind of episode. It's not good, but nor is it bad. The merits of the former are obvious, but the latter at least evokes a response that is stronger than a stifled yawn.
