Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman

A unique monster motive, and perpetrators, not my favourite episode, or the best one, but a good little episode with a unique spin that I quite liked.

Invisibility at its most fun
TheLittleSongbird15 December 2021
The Scooby Doo franchise did winter-set episodes very well indeed and the best of them were great even. My personal favourites for a long time being 'The New Scooby Doo Mysteries' "A Nutcracker Scoob" and 'The New Scooby Doo Movies' "The Ghost of Bigfoot". 'What's New Scooby Doo' did three winter episodes up to this point of the run, "There's No Creature Like Snow Creature" (very good), "A Scooby Doo Christmas" (mixed to positive) and this.

Of the three, "Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman" is the best by a landslide. An outstanding episode and one of my favourites of 'What's New Scooby Doo', it was one of those highly appreciated episodes for doing something different episodes on first watch. Now it is wonderful in every way and is still one of the most unique episodes of the entire franchise for its fresh spin on the formula and a relatively unusually ingenious ending.

Of the three winter set 'What's New Scooby Doo' episodes, "Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman" is the best looking. The snowy scenery is both stunning and suitably sinister at night, so a perfect backdrop for a mystery like this. The invisibility visuals are also very imaginative and wonderfully strange. Some of the best music of the show is in "Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman" , with it being very dynamic and catchy here.

This is the episode too with a strong contender for the best chase scene, the song is awesome and the visuals are very inventive in this scene. Simple Plan are used wonderfully and are terrific supporting characters, not only are they an essential role in the mystery they pretty much are and that was unique for the franchise. The writing is smart and funny with lots of intrigue.

Absolutely loved the story, it is a very complex one (unusually so for 'What's New Scooby Doo' and Scooby Doo in general), but also extremely compelling and suspenseful. As well as rich in energy and entertainment value, not to mention genuine creepiness. The reveal manages to outdo "Toy Scary Boo" in the ingenuity and shock factor, in a rare case of looking like nobody could possibly have done it. The gang are on form and are not sidelined in any shape or form. Returning Gibby is very funny, can't believe there was actually a time where he annoyed me.

In summary, brilliant. 10/10.

One of the best Scooby-Doo episodes of all time

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best episodes of Scooby-Doo, and not just What's New Scooby-Doo series.

I don't any problem with this episode as has a lot of moments: guest appearance of Canadian band Simple Plan (who the Mystery Gang visit their concert). They performed one or two classic soundtracks - even chase scene by them "You Don't Mean Anything" is one of the best.

As much as Velma get a laugh and annoyance of Gibby Norton returning and still impressing Velma. There's also the return Five Skull fire sauce stuff Shaggy had from Leland Brothers soldier ghosts episode.

The Invisible Madman is one unique unidentified villain, and like some episodes (like Toy Scary Boo) this had a great reveal as who is, or are, the culprits.
